Hunger Games - What did you think?

So I finished the last book tonight.  Has anyone else read them?  What did you think of the ending?

And I guess on to my next question anyone else have any good books to read... Preferably series types of books - and no vampire books (i can't get into twilight)....

Re: Hunger Games - What did you think?

  • I personally loved the Hunger Games!! I went on a family trip to Ocean City this past summer and we ALL got hooked.  As soon as one person put it down the other person grabbed it to catch up.  I thought the 2nd book was surprisingly good considering sequels are rarely even close to as good.  The 3rd book still kept my attention at the end of every chapter so I liked it!!

The movie comes out a week before our wedding and my bridesmaids and I have already planned to go see it the day before the wedding, prior to our trip to the nail salon :):) Can't wait to see it!!!

  • I LOVED the books...I literally did not want them to end. I thought the ending was perfect but I was reading it when I was at work and almost cried when the thing happened to the sister (I don't want to give away spoilers...although I think most people could guess haha). I can't wait to see the movies...I hope they are able to portray the books well, you know how movies tend to leave things out and what not.

    **Spoilers**
I loved Peeta by the way, I wanted her to end up with him from the beginning...honestly, I bought all the books at the same time and I read the very last page (not the epilouge) to make sure they ended up together because I was NOT going to read all the books if she didn't...I am weird, I know haha :)

Also, I felt like the mom kind of just brushed off Katniss and left her to grow up alone. I understand that District 12 was hard for her to go back to but didnt she want to be with the ONE family member she had left, I know I wouldnt be able to be away from my daughter like that!

I could discuss this book a lot more but I will stop for now haha.

  • I loved the books too and can't wait for the movies to come out.  The movies come out after the wedding so I have something to look forward to after the honeymoon.   I too am looking for some good reads.  I did just read a book called "First grave on the right" by Daryna Jones (I think that is the first name).  Not a bad book, kept my attention.  It is about a girl who calls herself the grim reaper because she can see and talk to dead people.  She helps those who has passed cross over to the other side.  Might want to look into it.  The is a 2nd book I will start this weekend.

First I was sad that the book ended. I mean I was really happy that she ended up with Peeta.  But I feel like it was just super rushed...  I felt like it went from complete action at the capital to like nothing.  I really didn't think her sister was going to die.  I almost teared a bit too...FI was like WTH is wrong with you!?

I really can't believe you read the last page!  LOL  It took me like a month to read the last book because I literally did not want to read it because I didn't want it to be over!  I know I'm a loser.

And her mom.  I mean she really just pissed me off.  OH and Finnick - I'm super sad that he died.  I know he wasn't a big character in the book but I don't know with him and Annie getting married and everything I just thought he would make it out alive.

I just really hope the movies are as good as the books - I don't want to be dissapointed.  The trailer looks fantastic so my hopes are high!  :)

I have to squeeze this movie in on Friday or Saturday night that it comes out because I leave that sunday for Vegas, and don't come back for almost two weeks... I CANNOT wait that long to see it!  I wish it would come out after so I wouldn't feel so rushed to see it...Oh well.

I will totally have to check this out!  I'm into this type of book and this sounds interesting.  Thanks!

  • LOOOOOVED the books!  I downloaded the first one on my Kindle on a Friday afternoon and was done with it by lunch time Sunday... I devoured books two and three at a similar pace!

I'm so very anxious to see the movie!  It comes out the day before the wedding... if we didn't have so much going on, I'd probably be trying to drag FH to an 11am showing that Friday :)
He doesn't know anything about the books or that there's even a movie coming out, I'm not sure if he'd be wanting to go see it with me or not.  He' going to be OOT for work about a week after we get back from our HM, maybe I will go see it by myself

  • I'm still on the 3rd book and it's kinda dragging for me.  I hope the ending is good! I figured she would end up with Peeta but no more spoliers please! LOL

  • I have only read the first Hunger Games.  I thought it was good but a little juvenile (of course I know it's geared towards teens).  It was an easy read that only took a day too get through.  I wouldn't mind seeing the movie and I may read the other two books. I can't think of any series books other than the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evonovich.  They are light hearted and funny.  If you like espionage/psychological thrillers with a little bit of history thrown in, Daniel Silva has a series of Gregory Allen books that I really enjoyed.

  • I didn't read one word of this thread in fear of spoilers, but I just wanted to tell you ladies that I plan to read them this summer! Teacher + school year + reading = don't really mix. I may try to start during the HM over spring break. It's a toss up between the HG and Taking Charge of Your Fertility. lol

  • I also loved them, read them all within a week. I was a lityle dissapointed at the end being rushed. def fely as if it couldve went further. I also felt the series touched every human emotion and left me with alot of deep thinking.
I have never read a book a second time whereas FI reads book over and over but I am seriously considering reading these agian, ther is just soo much too it

I feel you Britt! That is why I read them last summer!!!

I absolutely loved them...and the movie comes out the week after our honeymoon! I am excited because so many of my friends have said how sad it is to come back from the wedding/honeymoon and realize it is all over when it had been such a big part of your life for so long...at least I will have something to look forward to right after we get back!
