Pre Cana

Has anyone been to Pre Cana in Staten Island? FI and I are going tomorrow and next saturday. I was just curious what it was like. My FI is jewish so this should be interesting.

    my FI and I did pre cana in SI a couple weeks ago. Honetly, the first day we went wasnt bad. The couple who was instructing it was really cool and they made it interesting. We were basically given a book with different topics, such as communicating in marriage, how to talk about financial issues, and stuff like that. They started each topic by giving a 10 minute presentation and then you and your FI had to go in separate rooms and do an excersice in the booklet for 10  minutes, then you come back together and discuss with your FI how you answered the questions. I can honestly say that me and my FI felt so much closer after that session because they really force you to talk about alot of topics that you may  not have talked about on your own.

    Now, the second session of pre cana the following weekend was a different story! The topic of that day was intimacy and it was all about pre-marrital sex and contraceptives and how the church looks down upon it. The couple that presented basically lectured for 6 hours straight and we only got a 45 min lunch break! There were no activities or opportunities to really communicate with your FI.  I guess it depends on who is the presenter for the pre cana session and their style of "teaching".

    I'm sure it depends what Church you are using.  Some are a couple days. Mine was one and it wasn't bad at all.  Just like a class with a priest and some exercises with fi.

    Oh, interesting! I'm going to mine soon in Manhattan. I'm really counting on my 195 to go towards something useful... do they provide lunch?
