just curious... did any of you guys use Al's formalwear? my FI got suckered into a deal and we have an appt tomorrow to look at tuxes. just want to be prepared in case anyone has horror stories!
We are using them also. So far no problems. The lady called me the other day to recommend the guys go in soon so they arent caught up with all the teens for prom, which I thought was nice.
As long as I've been on here, I've seen girls have trouble with each and every one of them (with Tuxedo Junction maybe being the one exception). However, for every girl that had a problem with her tux/suit place, there were ten who had a great experience.
PP is correct: if you're getting married in April or May, you will run into prom issues and possible shortages. Since it's February (and I sponsor prom at our school), it's definitely early but I wouldn't put it off too long.
We had zero problems, except that three of our GM didn't have an Al's where they lived. Everyone was great and the abundance of locations in DFW was very convenient.
Julie, put me in the "problems with Tuxedo Junction" category.
While we are on the subject, we are wanting to do something like this (sans vest) with the groomsmen, with the combination of hot weather and casual wedding.
Could we rent just matching slacks for something like this? Is that weird? I really really want it to be uniform, even if it's casual. Thoughts?
I guess it would be close to the same price to just have them all purchase the same slacks and wear a nice white button-up. Suspenders would be part of their WP gifts we're thinking....

I think that's a cute idea, but I don't know about renting pants. As in, I don't know of those places will just rent pants. However, you could do the light weight khaki suits and just have the guys leave off the jackets. And, if you are going to rent, Amanda brings up an excellent point: if there are no --insert your tux shop name here--in the town where they live, are they going to drive to get it down and how far will they drive?
Amanda, Like I said, may be the one exception. I like them though because they give us coupons for all our guys to give out for the prom for $50-60 tuxes. Also, we rent suits for the graduation ushers through them, and they give us the same price.
Yeah the FI bought a deal several months ago and our local Al's sent me an email this week reminding us that prom is coming up so we may want to come in soon. I did think it was of nice of them to let us know because I never would've taken that into account!
Al's worked out great. We have groomsmen in Austin, San Antonio and College Station and as luck would have it they have locations in ALL of those places- score! They also had the colors I wanted.
I have to admit I got a little teary eyed!! FI and the groomsmen are going to look so handsome!!
