Online RSVPs

We are doing online RSVPs to save on $, and because it's easy to track.  We only have a few elderly guests and I am providing a phone number as a backup for them.

Does anyone have experience with this or know someone who did this and if it worked ok?  I just worry that people will not type in the weblink correctly.  Hopefully they would try again as it's a short link, but I just know how inept some people can be.  My other worry is it involves them to open invite and then boot up computer (another step) whereas the typical invite involves getting out a pen, filling it out, and placing in provided envelope (however, it does involve seeking out a mailbox!)  Thoughts?

I think you need to consider your sample (I'm a researcher ;) ). I think a lot of people use the internet every day, almost all day. There will likely be flukes, but the same thing happens with written RSVPs. People forget about sending them, write in only one name when they meant to include their spouse, etc. I think you should keep a close eye on the response rate, and if you see a big problem address it then. i.e. if you ask them to RSVP by March 30th and on March 23 you see that X number haven't responded prepare yourself to call/email them on the 30th or the 31st.

  • My FI's cousin used an online RSVP system for the wedding a couple years ago, and it went off with out a hitch. It was also a great way for them to get meal choices tallied up as well. I am personally going to do paper RSVPs because I like the formality of it, but if you are looking to save costs, I think they should be great and will get the job done.

  • I'm actually doing both. It turned out not to be much more to do printed RSVP's, so we just printed the URL for our website on the RSVP card in case people would prefer to go online instead of putting something in the mail. I was a little worried because we didn't have a lot of traffic to our site after the Save the Date went out, so I wanted the paper RSVP as a backup. I'm actually curious to see which option people will choose.
  • We have an online RSVP option on our website but like a PP said there has been very little traffic on our site.  We will be sending paper RSVPs since we know some of the guests either don't have computers or don't have internet access and it may be difficult for them to RSVP online.

I would double check the amount of RSVPs a week before (like jen posted) and contact those who haven't responded.
