All-inclusive adults-only caribbean honeymoon???!!!

I need some advice for a honeymoon destination. I'm looking for the following:

-adults only - this is really important to us because we have a 4 year old and we don't want to feel guilty being around kids the whole week
-all inclusive - I really don't want to worry about paying bills on my honeymoon, so this is the second most important part
-Caribbean - my fiancé is against Mexico and the Bahamas, but we are open to other islands like St Lucia, Turs & Caicos, etc. Just a heads up, we live in MD so we can't fly too far or airfare will kill us.
-Privacy - I LOVE the look of Sandals Halcyon in St Lucia. It doesn't have that hotel 'look' about it, which I love. My only hesitation in booking this resort is that the sand is kind of dark and the water is not the clear blue that I am picturing.

All in all, I want a Sandals Halcyon somewhere else that has BLUE water and WHITE sand. I appreciate any and all suggestions!

  • WE live in MD and it cost about $1000 for 2 round-trip tickets to Jamaica. We are staying at an all-inclusive resort in Negril (Couples Swept Away) which is adults only. Total our honeymoon is costing us $3100. Good luck with your decision!

    Bethie,

I went to Couples Swept Away about 9 years ago for my birthday, and I loved it! You should have a fantastic time on your honeymoon - I have yet to find a beach that I enjoyed as much as Negril.

  • We are headed to Excellence in Punta Cana. Our travel agent highly recommended it! We also considered the Couples resorts in Jamaica, but our travel agent recommended Excellence over those and not really having much AI experience, we decided to take her advice! Good luck!

  • What's wrong with Mexico or the Bahamas?  Either is a good option for AI, adults only, clear water and white sand.  You could do Jamaica, but that was my least favorite vacation we've taken.  I guess if you're not planning on leaving the resort it's fine.

I would definitely recommend checking out the all inclusives in the Dominican Republic, in particular, the Punta Cana area.  I agree with a PP who said check out the Iberostar Grand; I've never been but it gets amazing reviews on Tripadvisor.  I would also look into Excellence Punta Cana, which also gets great reviews.

I have been to the Bahia Principe Ambar resort in Punta Cana and I it was OK.  Not sure I would go there again, the food was "meh."  That being said, the beaches in the DR are some of the best I have been to in the Caribbean.  I thought they were as nice if not better than the beaches in Mexico.  I would definitely go back to Punta Cana, and I would probably stay at the Iberostar Grand or the Excellence resort.

  • To the original poster:  I am in the same exact situation right now. I've been researching and reading reviews for weeks now.  At first, Sandals Grande Riviera in Ochos Rios, Jamaica was at the top of my list but I'm now considering Jewel Dunn Resort or Secrets Montego Bay. Then someone at work told me Jamaica is pretty awful and if you leave the resort at all, there is a lot of crime and drugs (however, I don't plan on leaving the resort).  I will say that I went to Punta Cana 2 years ago for vacation and stayed at the Barcelo Dominican Beach and it was pretty terrible.  Tripadvisor.com has become my best friend!
