what did you pay for flowers?

I just got my final bill from the florist and it's $2974!
I'm blown away! (now before I get scolded for not have budget, not getting price quotes, etc etc. this is the only vendor I let my mom 100% handle and she wasn't interested in budgets)
anyway, our centerpieces are Cakes w/ 1 single flower on top, we have 4 bp attendants on each side, in addition to approx 5 ladie's corsages and 4 boutineers.
Am i over-reacting or does this seem WAY high?  no turning back now, I just watned 2nd opinions.

I only had bouquets and no reception flowers and I paid roughly 900 bucks. It was more due to the fact that I had very expensive flowers, but it was only what we needed. That was for 1 bride 6 bridesmaids, 2 mothers, 2 grandmothers, 5 coursages, 4 bouts, cake flowers, petals for tables, a memorial candle for my mother and flowers and flowers to give our mothers during the ceremony.

Yes, I think that's way high. I spoke with 3 florists who all quoted me between $500-800 for the following in shades of purple:
my bouquet with callas, hydrangea and roses
4 bridesmaids with roses and hydrangea
    grooms bout in calla lily
    8 groomsmen/fathers bouts in roses
    4 corsages in spray roses

roses for the pews (approx 36 roses tied with ribbon)

18-20 centerpieces with lavender roses and purple callas

Not to be mean, but I think you're overpaying. Or you're just picking different flowers than me.

I don't really want to share my price point because I booked when my floral designer was newer-ish, so her prices reflected that at the time.

That being said, I'm having a hard time imagining how 1 bridal bouquet, 4 bm bouquets, 8 bouts, 5 corsages, and, well, we'll say 20 single blooms could possibly amount to almost $3k.

My quote from Benken's (the most expensive place I looked) for:
    •  1 bridal bouquet (mini callas and cymbidium orchids),
    • 3 bm bouquets (cymbidium orchids),
    • 9 bouts (cymbidium orchids),
    • 2 posy's (cymbidiums),
    • 2 corsages (dendrobrium orchids),
    • 1 guestbook table arrangement (dendrobrium orchids),
    • 15 centerpiece arrangements (floating dendrobriums),
    • cake table (cymbidium orchids),
    • escort table (dendrobriums),
    • three bar arrangements (dendrobriums),
    • and 150 loose dendrobrium blooms

(yeah, I like orchids Embarassed) was only $4k.

Please tell me there's more to this story...

I think it seems high--especially without flower centerpieces.  I would ask for an itemized bill.  Did you have a lot of other floral arrangements--e.g., big ceremony decorations, escort card table arrangemetns, etc.?  Maybe they gave you a lot of expensive flowers that you wouldn't have otherwise picked if you had known the price???

That seems to be extremely high! I would get an itemized bill and see if they are charging you any extra fees like delivery, etc...

UPDATE:  She didn't have my $500 deposit marked down, so the damage is only 2474
still totally insane but a little better. I am supposed to talk to her this evening and am asking her where we can cut costs down.
i forgot to mention she's making 4 *small* arrangements to be used at RD and then again at reception.  also a tall arrangement for Escort card table.

I am paying about $400 for my flowers.  I didn't need to order centerpieces because they are included and my flowers for the church are minimal due to restrictions from our pastor.

I'm using hydrangeas, baby roses, hypericum, and babies breath.

    They're going to be gorgeous!
    Due date: July 22, 2012!

hollsmv, were you able to get an itemized bill? I'm thinking maybe she has high labor and delivery charges. I wonder how much the price would drop if you had the baker insert the cake flowers instead of her.

Wow...I'm not getting any centerpieces (and your tall arrangement for escort card table might be a big chunk of that cost) but I'm getting my bouquet, 5 BM boquets, 11 bouts (including groom's), and 6 corsages as well as 2 single roses for the mom's during ceremony.  She's getting my flowers, ribbon, supplies and doing them all for $300.
