Ring Woes

So I just picked up the ring that my fiance and I custom designed. And it totally doesn't look like what I picked out. I've waited almost two months, so I'm (more than) a little disappointed. Am I crazy, or do these two pics not look the same?

Here's what I chose:

And here's what I got:

Re: Ring Woes

  • Ugh I feel like such a brat for being upset.

  • I don't understand how it's different?  It's a beautiful ring.

  • It's not at all flush as the original photo. I see where'd you be upset.

  • I would be upset, too. It doesn't look bad, but if you design a ring, you should get what you asked for. How does it look from the top?

Oh I forgot to say what I was upset about! Hahahaha. We deliberately chose one with a low profile because that is the look I prefer, and because i wear a tiny size, so having something tall is disporportionate.

From the top, it looks great, except that the perspective is a bit weird because it's so tall.

I should also add that it is at least half a size too large after being custom made from scratch to fit me...

    EDIT: spelling

  • I completely understand the tall thing. I tried on a ring I loved, but it just looked really odd on my hand b/c of how tall it was. Is there anything you can do about it?

I'd take it back. It's way too tall.  The jeweler dropped the ball here. How can the ring be too big if it was custom made for you

  • We're taking it back on Saturday when the owner will be there. They told us that it can't be made to look like the original because of the diamond size...which is in the range that the ring can accomodate. I'm hoping they will tell us it can be done, because I still love the design, but I am skeptical about their ability to do it right the second time.

Thanks, girls, I was feeling so petty for disliking it. I couldn't even wear it on the drive home because it kept spinning around! The more I think about it, the more I want to just ask for a refund and go back to the drawing board with a different company. Any experiences getting $$ back for a ring?

  • Good luck! I hope something can be worked out, and that if you chose to go elsewhere that you can get your money back. Unfortunately I have no advice or experience about that.
  • Update!

We went back to the jewler, and the owner was incredibly helpful and understanding. He had called the designer and, while they said they could try to redo it, he actually suggested that we might not get exactly what we wanted with this solution. He gave us a full refund, and was very gracious.

  • Wow, that's a great outcome, even if it means starting from scratch! I'm glad they were so accommodating! Best of luck with designing a new ring!

I'm glad you got it all straighned out and what a gracious owner! I hope they get it right the second time.

  • Why not just have your fiance purchase the ring you want and not try and have it custom made?
