I worked with Howrad Johnson to set my block up.  There were great to work with.  Very good pricing and quick to return calls and respond.

I would suggest the hampton inn.

i would NOT suggest the Ramada. My fiance right now is living in Newport because hes on special assignment down at the navy base for work.
He was staying at the ramada it was horrid.

He moved over the the hampton inn and it is much nicer, and its pretty central.

Also- someitmes if you need more rooms in a block, once the intial rooms are all full- they will open more blocks for you

thank you i2012do - my venue suggested ramada and best western b/c they thought they would be cheaper, but I have heard horrible things about both and also horrible stories with the service and OOT bags at holiday inn. i am going to look into both marriotts (courtyard and residence) and also hampton inn. yes, we have booked quality inn and comfort inn, as they are across from our venue and owned by them and they too mentioned that if the 10 rooms in the block get taken quickly and if they have the availability, they can give out more - which is good to know!

Getting married at ABC as well but on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and almost all the hotels are already booked!!

Question - did any of the ones you've had room blocks have a shuttle available?  What are you doing about getting your guests to ABC?

JT - the same thing happened to me when I called Hampton Inn for 9.13 and 14 - the woman on the phone told me they werent accepting any more reservations for room blocks - luckily, I had booked with Quality and Comfort - right across from ABC which I'm sure you know - and I also just booked with Courtyard Marriott this week - I still have to find out if they do a shuttle. If not, we were talking about getting trolleys to and from ABC. Its going to be expensive but with the 4 hour open bar we are planning - it might be needed ;) We also called Npt beach hotel and suites and they said they could make a name block for us for the purposes of OOT bags but couldnt block or discount any rooms, whatever. who are you working with at ABC? we looked at a lot of places - love it there and getting really excited!

how many hotels do you typically need to room block?  right now the only place i've blocked with and was available is the knight's inn which is about 1/2 a mile away from ABC.  comfort, ramada, hampton, courtyard, quality - already full.

we met once with elaine and she's been very helpful.

btw - any comments on knight's inn?

jt - we are having so many out of town guests, i have booked 3 hotels, for a total of 35 guaranteed rooms for my weekend, 9.13 (thurs) 9.14 (fri) comfort let me do 10, quality 10, courtyard 15. they all said that if all the rooms in the block go quickly, and more ppl call and they have availability - they will honor the room block rate. there is also the newport beach hotel and suites across the street from ABC but they don't do room blocks at all. which stinks because they would be another great choice. what i did do with them is set up what they call a "wedding registry" and there is an account for your name for when ppl call - its basically only for the purposes of telling you how many OOT bags you need. i would try them and tell them your situation! i cant believe all those other hotels are booked!! did you try best western, residence inn, holiday inn, or some have even said howard johnson? i dont know anything about knights inn - where is it? in middletown?

Knights Inn is actually 1/2 mile away from ABC up the street in middletown- the reviews on TripAdvisor basically said "it's a room, clean and cheap" haha... we got the room block for $135 a night with only 1 night min.   Just got a room block for Best Western as well for 155 a night.  they were going to charge a 50 block fee until I mentioned the wedding was at ABC, then they waived it.

BW only lets you start with 10 and if they have more rooms available after, they will let you have more.  same deal with Knights.

what are you doing for OOT bags?  have you found any and what are you putting in them?

hi - we haven't figured out OOT bags yet, but we definitely want to do them. we know we always liked getting them when we went to weddings. we won't RI theme them but they will have the standard stuff - water, granola bars, tylenol, gum, etc.
