Any Jewish Brides

What Rabbi are you using ?

What traditions are you following?

Re: Any Jewish Brides

  • Hi!!

I'm using Rabbi Steven Westman. Great reformed Rabbi and he's a pisser and a half. Love him. My mother is so crazy about him, we're inviting him to stay for the reception.

Since we're interfaith, we'll be on the light side of tradition. We're incorporating a Ketubah, the breaking of the glass, and Kiddush cup. Since we haven't had our final meeting yet, I don't know for sure what else he'll be doing, but I do know he'll be doing the 7 blessings (that's what it's called, right?)

I'm such a bad jew, ha.

  • Hi! Rabbi Epelbaum from Beth David congregation is officiating our wedding. We are Conservative and are pretty traditional/observant so we are doing the whole big Jewish thing. We are doing a bedeken and all of the ceremony rituals and customs. :)
  • Very nice!

What are you girls doing for the chuppah?

I will also be doing most traditions, but Im between two Rabbis.

  • I'm doing a very traditional chuppah with some friends holding the poles. I'm having our chuppah canopy made by an artist on Etsy. I'm super excited about it. It's going to be customized with our names/date/etc. and will hang behind us at the reception with some uplighting. After the wedding, we will have it mounted on a frame to hang in our home.

What are you doing for yours?
  • I am using Rabbi Andrew Jacobs (Ramat Shalom), my caterer is PCS events and she brings the chuppah, we're doing it with flowers, and need to get a Talit for FI.

Rabbi Andrew is progressive, so we're doing some traditions (veiling, circling, sheva b'rachot) but changing some (more egalitarian wording of the Ketubah).

Good luck! If you haven't already read it, I would recommend the New Jewish Wedding by Anita Diamant, it's amazing!

  • I just used Rabbi Pomerantz from Temple Beth Shalom in Miami Beach and she was fabulous. She's very reform and let us incorporate whatever customs we wanted and we didn't have to do anything traditional that we weren't comfortable with like the veiling/ bedeken.

Also, if you're looking for a ketubah check out newworldketubah.com. Everything is beautiful and Rachel is so friendly and can customize. I was very pleased.

I agree with the last post about "The New Jewish Wedding". If you read any book about wedding planning, make it this one. It was the most helpful book during planning and was recomended by our Rabbi.
