DIY veil--I'm sweating bullets

I'm so so nervous about making my own veil.  I just can't justify paying someone $150 to $200 for some french netting, lace and flowers, you know?  And I KNOW I can do this, but I'm absolutely terrified.

Does anyone know of a good online store that has lots of good selection for milinery supplies like french netting (in a variety of colours) and other things?  Does anyone have any good online tutorials for a bandeau style birdcage veil?  Or detachable one?

I think I'm going to start with some sketches of what I want, and ask your opinions.

*deep breath*  oh man.

Re: DIY veil--I'm sweating bullets

  • After seeing your beautiful garter, silk flowers, and jewelry, you definitely have lots of experience working with tulle, lace, and such so you can definitely do this!! I made my veil, but it's only a 2-tier fingertip tulle one - not as complex as a birdcage veil! So I can see how it's a little daunting.

I know save-on-crafts.com has russian netting for ~$5.95 and some millinery leaves and flowers. Not sure how the millinery pricing compares to other sites - I haven't looked around. Of course, Etsy has bunches, too.

Yeah, I think I'll end up buying my supplies on etsy.  I just wish I could find like www.bajillionsoffrenchnettingcolours.com or something.  Yknow?

I'm goign to go plant some flowers and then start designing this thing.  I've been collecting inspiration photos all afternoon.  I'm still scared though.
