Table cakes

My daughter has her heart set on 'table cakes' as the centerpieces at her reception and I really like the idea too.  We are looking at needing about 15-16 cakes.....does anyone have any experience with this??  recommendations?? Cost estimates??? Looking for a buttercream frosted cake with a simple decoration and then we will top them with flowers......I think lol

thanks :-)

I did table cakes and LOVED them. I got my cakes from Fantasy in Frosting (pics below) and they were wonderful. I made my cake stands out of black plates from IKEA and hot glued painted flower pots to the bottom as the base. Fantasy in Frosting actually helped me by placing the cakes directly on the plates, but I would talk to them or your baker first, some have very particular preferences. I did 5 different flavor combinations and I would avoid putting flowers on the top of them (what will the guests do with the flowers once the cake is cut). I spent about 20 bucks per cake roughly delivered. It was a great investment. I had cake cutters (you can buy them from them as well) on each table and let my guests cut their own cakes. It was a hit. I had a card next to the cake that reminded guests that different tables had different flavors of cake and to search out their favorite. I even bought take out boxes (Styrofoam) from Sams and gave them to the reception site to allow guests to take some cake home. We still get compliments on our cakes and the idea. It was a real social piece.
