The end of an extremely stressful week

As I posted a while ago, my mom had a rare medical problem last week, and up until yesterday was in the hospital.  Well, after dealing with the rehab and insurance people, I was able to get my mom here in my own town (she lives an hour away in PA and the hospital was 2 hrs away).  Now, she's only 5 minutes from me, I can bring her dog to her for visits, and she can be signed out for day passes.  After she got settled into her room yesterday FI and his kids came to visit and brought her dog...there were tears of joy in her eyes at being around family and her beloved pooch.

My sister is in town to host my shower (which is tomorrow) and my mom is going to be here.  I was just going to cancel the entire thing but my mom is so excited that she can make it that I wouldn't dare-she put the entire thing together.

She has a long road ahead of her, she still doesn't have use of her left leg and her bladder is paralyzed (and because of how rare her situation is they have no way to predict if she will ever get use of her bladder back).  She's already showing improvements with her leg though.

Things aren't perfect, but they are better, and I can relax knowing mom is close, and in good care.  We talked with the pastor and have plan A B and C (not knowing if in two weeks mom will be in a wheel chair, walker, or whatnot) for the ceremony, marriage license has been obtained, and well, I think I slept for the first time in a week last night.

Sorry-end rambling.  Hope you all have a fun, relaxing weekend

Re: The end of an extremely stressful week

  • Glad to hear your mom is doing better. I couldn't imagine all that stress with everyday life and of course, stress from planning the wedding.

I will keep her in my thoughts, hope next week turns out to be much less stressful for you both. Maybe she will be even further along her road to recovery by then, you never know.
  • That's wonderful to hear that your mom is doing a little better and that she will be closer to you.  Sometimes just having the ones that you love around is better medicine than anything that the Dr's can prescribe.  Have fun at you shower, take that time to relax with all that you have going on and I will keep your mom in T & P's.

  • Happy to hear that. Being close to everyone will hopefully help her recovery. Getting out should lift her spirits. Enjoy your shower will her. Hoping she keeps up the fast recovery.
