Puerto Rico or Riviera Maya mid/late October

We are taking our HM mid/late October and have it narrowed down between Puerto Rico and Riviera Maya. Which one will have better weather and more things to do at that time of year? We are looking for some relaxing beach time but want to try snorkeling, zip lining and other fun stuff. We are trying not to break the bank, so are budget is limited to about 4000 or less. Any suggestions will help! Thanks

Re: Puerto Rico or Riviera Maya mid/late October

  • Went on vacation to Riviera Maya (Valentin Imperial Maya).  It was absolutely amazing.  Should easily come in under budget for 7 days.
  • I actually don't think you will go wrong with either choice. I LOVE Puerto Rico and second everything that cfaszews said - TONS to do, lots of nightlife, great food, and the bioluminescent bay is one of my top 5 travel memories of all time. I am honeymooning in the Riviera Maya and am really, really excited about it as well, but we are going to a secluded all-inclusive wellness resort and not planning to get out much, we are looking more for a week of relaxation and pampering, and you can get the most for your money in Mexico.

I've only been to Riveria Maya, but I've gone twice in October and had sunny 90 degree weather both times!  We loved Secrets Maroma Beach.  I'd also rec Iberostar Gran Paraisio, but it may be out of your budget
  • We will be doing Puerto Rico, also late October/early November.  Hurricane season should be over by then, and accomodations will be cheaper.  We will also be going to see his family, since he is from PR, so accomodations won't break our bank that much.  A few days in a nice hotel on the beach, then off to see his family for a celebration with those who couldn't make the wedding.
  • We wil be going to the secrets maroma beach resort at Riviera Cancun  in early January, and we couldnt be more excited. I have heard nothing but great things. We are looking forward to it.

We went to the Riveria Maya Oct 23rd this past year for a week.  Weather was perfect.  Tons of things to do!
