Dress: bustle or wrist strap

I just bought my dress yesterday (YES!), and when the seamstress came out to show bustles, i thought it made my dress look tacky. here is the link to my dress

The dress is very silky, and the back is smooth, so i think that if i were to get a bustle, it would be visible on my backside as I am walking down the aisle. That being said though, I am wearing a long floor length ivory veil, so it might not be visible. but I'm not sure. I've considered a wrist strap, and my Fiance loves the idea of the strap (he does NOT like bustles). My dress is very light, so it would not be an issue of weight.

What do you think? do you think my legs would show if i had a strap? also, where can i get a pretty strap?

I'm with you in that I don't particularly like the look of bustles. I wanted to avoid a dress with a train for that reason, but I ended up getting one that did have a train, of course.

Mine had a bustle, but the bustle broke only a little while into our reception and I ended up carrying it around by the manufacturer wrist loop all night. It will show your legs or crinoline -- whatever's underneath your skirt -- some, but it's not too bad. Play around with the positioning of the loop to get it just right. Any seamstress should be able to sew in a pretty strap for you.

I dislike bustles as well, but like Elle ended up with a gown with a train - a cathedral length train nonetheless! I'm going to vote either bustle is somehow, or maybe have the train shortened into a mini sweep train. I personally con't think I could walk around with a wrist wrap and it doesn't look like a long enough train to pull that off.

Very glamorous though!

I vote for a bustle. Go to a good seamstress and see if they can come up with some ideas that you don't hate. Every time I've gone to a wedding where the bride wore a wrist strap, it ended up being a huge pain in the butt when she was being hugged by 1,000 people.

What a very pretty dress! My dress is also a galina signature. Instead of the bustle (I'm not a huge fan of bustles), I removed the train. It's so much lighter and I can move around so much better. I like my dress without it.

However, your dress looks beautiful with the train, but have you thought about removing it?

If the main worry about the bustle "showing" is button that the bustle would fasten to maybe see about a small hook & eye?

A good seamstress can create a bustle that doesn't show the hooks. I personally would enjoy a wrist strap for maybe 2 minutes, then move to midly irritated, annoyed, and then full on ticked with it by the end of the night as it constantly got in my way of everything that I did. But that's me personally. I like having my hands free to dance, hug everyone, play with cameras, snuggle my husband, etc.

OP, you mentioned that you thought the bustle would look weird walking down the aisle. Why not just bustle your dress after the ceremony? That's what I'm doing and what I've seen most brides do. Let your train be long and pretty, because what's the point of having the train if it's not going to be seen, down the aisle and back and then ask your BM/MOH/mother to help you bustle it really quickly before the reception. Either take notes or see if one of your people can come with you to your last fitting and have the seamstress show them how the bustle works. Most people I know bustled their dresses when they took off their veils for the party.
