What products are best!?

Hi.  I have hair the length of my back bra strap and plan on it being an inch or two longer at my wedding.  The problem is,  I have to curl it with hot rollers in order for the curls to last.  They still will fall flat just a few hours later.  I've been told that a "good hairspray"  is key.

Any tips or tricks on how to keep a curly style through the night?  Any suggestions on "good"  hairspray?  I don't care if it's $20-30 at a salon,  as long as it really does work.  (I don't go to a salon often or have a hairstylist to ask.)

Any other suggestions as to what order of products I should use after shampooing?  I feel like if I use too many products my hair will be too weighed down.

My hair will hold hot roller loose curls better than most (It's naturally curly and flat ironed) so take this with a grain of salt.

I've found that curl holds better in general if it hasn't been washed in a few days.  I will also swear by all of Aveda's products.  I am sure that they will have something that can help you.  Most cities have Aveda schools where an appointment is $10 - $15.  Make an appointment there to have your hair styled to see what they do - tell them that you are testing formal hair styles.  The students there have to have their game plan approved by a master stylist so end result mistakes are almost non-existent.

  • I'll second Aveda. I have had AMAZING success with Control Force:

MY hair is very fine and typically does not hold curl well regardless of the product until I got a free sample of this at a bridal show. The key for me is to spray on dry hair and then brush through while blasting with a hairdryer. Work in sections. Then curl.

Also, usually the higher the heat, the more hold you will get. Hot rollers aren't that hot. I love my Sultra. It is really important after unwrapping the hair from a curling iron to hold the curl until it cools. If you just let go of it, the curl will fall out faster.

THANK YOU so much for the tips!  I will try Aveda.

Anyone else have ideas?  I'm going to try hairstyles tomorrow.  Especially the "let it cool first"  technique.
  • Definately the "dirty" hair trick. Even if you feel you need to wash it the morning of, spray some dry shampoo, light spray, something, just to give your hair some 'grip'.
