Wedding Hair & Makeup

Hi all,

I'm looking for a hair and makeup artist, so far the price i have seen is about 350 (including trial) for the bride and 150 for the BMs. I think it's a lot, is there any affordable ones in the twin cities?

Thanks!

"Dawn L Fredrickson Hair Styling and Makeup Artistry" was very reasonable when I last requested a price quote from her... less than $200 for everything for the bride, including trial. Bridesmaid updos were $70, though... I don't think she has a website, but she does have a facebook page.

I'm using Amber B. from Smart & Chic for myself (I think about $250 total for hair+makeup+trials) and have a friend's sister who is a phenomenal hair stylist do all my bridesmaids' hair for less than $30/apiece! They're all doing their own makeup.

Yeah hair & makeup is pretty pricey, especially for the bride.. Smart & Chic is about as cheap as they come and it's still about $250 for the works. (hair, makeup, trial) You could always skip the trial though if you have a good idea of what you want. I'm not 100% decided so I'm doing the full trial where you can experiment with as many looks as you want. You could also go to a salon instead of having a bridal stylist come to you. I was in a wedding where we all just went to Cole's for hair and then did makeup ourselves. That was a couple years ago but I think it only costed about $70/girl.

Like acw016 said, you might think about going to a salon, which would probably be cheaper. I'm going to Brian Graham in Minneapolis, where updos range from about $50-$70 (ask for less experienced stylists for lower prices) and makeup is about $50. They do free 15-minute consultations, but if you want a full trial it will be the same as the actual day-of cost. I think I may do a full hair trial, but just a 15-minute consultation for makeup. Therefore my total won't be more than $190 (not including tip.) Another salon I like is Village Hair in South Minneapolis. There are great salons all over town.

I'm having my hair done at Terrace Hair in Uptown (franklin and hennepin). Katie is awesome, she dyes my hair. She's charging me $55 for the updo including trials.

I haven't found a makeup person yet, but wouldn't want to spend more than $50 on makeup. IMO $250 for hair and makeup is absurd.

I used to go there to get my hair done. The owner was a friend of mine back in the day when pretty much all my friends were gay guys.

If you don't have a tattoo to cover up, Brett Dorrian is about $200 for hair/makeup with a $75/service trial fee. My MOH is having her makeup done, which will cost around $70 or so. Brett's work is amazing. You can check out her galleries at www.brettdorrianartistry.com
