dress alterations?

I purchased my dress from The Bridal Boutique and they don't offer alterations.  Does anyone have any recs for dress alterations?  Thanks!

Re: dress alterations?

  • Are you talking about the Bridal Boutique by MaeMe or the Bridal Boutique in Baton Rouge?

  • They offer alterations for a fee.  I also bought my dress from there.  They have their own seamstress who is there certain days of the week so it's by appontment.  I've had one fitting and I am going tomorrow for my next one!  Hope this helps!

  • Oh wow, when I purchased my dress they didn't have anyone at the time but I also bought it about 2 weeks after they opened.  Thanks for the tip!
  • Has anyone had their alterations done there? if so, were they good and at a fair price? I bought my dress at MaeMe as well.
  • My mother had her MOB alterations done there.  She said they did a great job.
  • I'm going later this afternoon for my second fitting, so I'll let you know how the lady did with the first round of taking it in.  I had to order a size 20 because of my hip measurements, but the top had to be taken in significantly.  I asked about pricing but they couldn't nail down an exact price till it's finished, but they said alterations usually don't run over $150 (don't quote me on that though, that's just what I think I remember...)  Anyway, I'll be sure to keep you girls posted : )

2nd fitting went great!  My dress looks amazing!!!!!  I was really impressed with the work the seamstress did.  My dress has lots of detail (intricate lace and beading on the entire dress) so I was worried about how it would look after it had to be cut and put back together, but I can't even tell at all that it was worked on!  It looks like it was made that way : )  While we were there my mom had her Mother of the Bride dress (that was purchased at MaeMe) fitted for the first time and my mom was impressed at the little details the seamstress noticed needed to be altered that my mom hadn't noticed.  So far, so good with alterations at MaeMe : )

  • With getting alterations at MaeMe...how long before the wedding should I get them?  I'll need a lot I think.  Dress is very big, too long, etc.  How long before the wedding should I get bridal portraits taken as this will determine when I will begin alterations.  I'm currently right at 4 months out and have been the same size for about 5 years so I doubt it will change in this short time.  Should I just go ahead and get started now?
  • I was originally going to take bridal portraits on August 30th (I've since cancelled to save money) but anyway my first fitting was on June 7 and my second was originally scheduled for July 3rd (I ended up having a scheduling conflict so I went the next week, but my dress was there for the 3rd.)  They are going to call me when my dress is ready to come try it on again to see if it fits or if it needs more work.

I think they told me to start 3 months before the first time I needed to wear the dress.  I think the sooner you can get in the better.

As far as when to schedule bridals, mine were scheduled about a month and a half before the wedding to allow time for the photographer to process the pictures and order a large print to be displayed at the wedding.

I hope this helps, the more I read it, the more confusing it sounds to me!

  • No that totally makes sense.  Thanks for your help.  I contacted my photographer and she wants to take bridals at the end of Sept or beginning of Oct (about 6 weeks before for processing and creating the portrait), so I guess I should get started now.  That's what I figured but having someone else tell me the same makes me feel a lot better about it.  Thanks!
  • No problem!  Happy to help : )  Hope everything works out!
