Does anybody know how we can put on a slideshow?

Hi!  I'm looking for information on how I can have a photo slideshow at my wedding between the ceremony and the reception.  It's all happening in a friend's backyard.  After the ceremony, the catering staff will be moving chairs and setting up tables, and the groom and I will be getting pictures taken.  There will be cold hors d'ouvres and background music, but we don't want people getting too bored as our pictures may take up to an hour and a half.  We thought it would be neat to have a photo slideshow with different pictures of each of us growing up, pictures from when we were dating, and leading up to our engagement pictures.  That way people would at least have something to look at and talk about.  I talked to our photographer, and they don't provide anything like that.  I talked to our DJ and he wanted $295 for an 8 minute slideshow!  I looked into renting the equipment myself, but that seems to be more of a hassle than it's worth.  Does anyone know of a vendor who can provide a longer slideshow for a reasonable price?  I will put it together myself, I just want someone else to be in charge of setting it up and running it.  I'd also love to hear any other ideas for keeping my guests entertained before dinner.  Thanks!

I've never done it, but I work with a couple of families who do something similar and have "backyard movie nights". I bet something similar could be done for your slide show, but what's involved is the use of a plain white sheet for the screen and then a projector with a connected dvd player for their movies. I don't know if it's capable to rent a projector but that is one possibility. For us we are doing the hor dourves, and starting the open bar and having people just mingle about, we are hoping our pics don't take longer than an hour.  good luck!

I think that you could make the slide show yourself.  Or, have a friend, bridesmaid or family member do it for you.  I know a friend of mine has already expressed interest in doing one for me.  We are going to have ours play on a 52 inch plasma flat screen television. We will have it going on a loop so it will repeat.  That way, people can cycle in and out during the cocktail hour and reception to view.    The TV will be set up on a table.  This particular TV has the DVD player built in.  However, it is fairly easy to get a DVD player and they are often inexpensive.  If you don't have a TV, you could look into borrowing one.

Hope you find something that works!

Yeah, I agree with SMS, powerpoint would probably be the easiest.  You can buy a projector and just have it project on a white sheet.  You can probably sell the projector after the wedding.

Side note:  if it's going to be playing the daylight, it might be hard to see.
