Bar tab vs venue's alcohol package price

Just wondering if anyone has done a wedding or party at a DoubleTree.  What was the bar tab at the end of the night and how many guests?  Or did you choose the package deal (set price per person - unlimited drinks)?

For a 4 houre reception, estimate 5 drinks per person. (ALL people, including kids, go into your count.) Multiple by the average drink price. Figure out which is less. The only way this changes is if seriously 2/3 of your guest list don't drink.

My friends and family are drinkers at weddings- especially of it's an open bar. The place our recption is at includes unlimited premium liquor for 5 hours. The average drink there is probably $6-7, so it's much cheaper than doing a tab. Plus I don't want any surprises on the final bill. I have a friend whose parents did a tab at her wedding. It was at a very nice restaurant and drinks there usually run upwards of $8 each. People were ordering top shelf frozen drinks. The bride's mom cut everyone off halfway through the night because the bar tab was astronomical. I certainly don't want to have to cut people off because it gets too expensive.
