Hey Cin! this is a very cute and fairly easy to accomplish idea! Basically, you can make it portrait or landscape, but I think portrait (vertical) would give less extra paper to fold.
I would use a low weight card stock. Something stronger than regular paper but not as stiff as something you would use for invitations. I would buy the cardstock paper from Michael's for $3.99.
To make the template, do what SoontobeHasrouni said...make a text box and just type up what you want. I would center it so it can be even or justify it. You will have to play around with it to get it how you want it. Copy and paste the text box to make several on one page. You probably can get about 10-12 on a page depending on how big your font is and what font you use. Make sure you play with various font and sizing to get it format or be placed where and how you want it.
The most important step is to make a napkin fold similar to how you want it. Use this napkin as a template to measure where you will need your wording to stop once you make it.
I'm sure there are markers and appropriate settings to put this at, but that I wouldn't know bc it will depend on how the napkin is made (width mostly). So just play with it, once you have that one down...you are good to go! Good luck! I can't wait to see them. Send us a picture of your mock up!!! And thanks for the idea, I will have to do this for our Mardi Gras Ball and for Christmas!!!
