Ceremony music for wedding in Catholic Church

My wedding will take place at the church where I grew up, which is a Catholic church in New Orleans with VERY strict music guidelines for weddings. The priest mentioned: No pre-recorded music. All music must be live. No "Wedding March" or secular music. etc...

I am totally at a lost! Any suggestions?

Re: Ceremony music for wedding in Catholic Church

  • Can the church recommend any music?  Most of the Catholic churches will allow at least classical music to be played.
  • Which church? Most Catholic churchs have a music coordinator that help you with selections.

I hired an organist for the ceremony music.

Songs for processional/recessional: Concerto in D, Cannon in D, Trumphet Tune, Trumphet voluntary, etc.

If you can find it, the music coordinator at our church, had a CD with all bridal songs for catholic weddings. She told us we could find it online, but we didnt need it.

    Hope that helps!

A lot of the Churches have a hand out of pre-approved songs that are not found in the hymnal, but are allowed (typically classical music), check with the wedding coordinator, if there is a music director they'll be able to point you in that direction.  You can google Catholic wedding music, or the Catholic board on here has a link to a site that discusses music.
  • Throughout the planning process I referenced at site called Catholicweddinghelp.com. They were a great source of info for me.

    Good Luck!
  • Hm....  I sang at a wedding once and had to sing Ave Maria, How Beautiful, and Panis Angelicus. The Bridal Prayer is very beautiful also!
