Hosted bar help

Has anyone hosted a bar at the national hispanic cultural center?  If so, about how much was it for how many people?  Or does anyone have a location where a hosted bar won't bankrupt me?

thanks!

I did talk to them about a hosted bar myself.  The catering manager said beer was $4.00 and wine was $5.00 - she didnt really talk about hard alcohol.  She figured on a drink per hour (which I think is low but...) so you should be able to get a ball park figure from that.

Thanks, that is what I'm afraid of. The rental price is so low they have to make up for it somewhere!

I think you'll find that at most every place.  I know that places who have contracts with the city do so because they agree to charge the client (us) 10% extra for drink prices and then hand it over the city.  Sucks, but I suppose its the price of doing business.

we're having ours at the Event Palace. We have to pay $300 for the alcohol server & a cash bar. But we know that's not very nice to have, so we decided to buy a keg & have them serve it, so that all the beer is free, but if they want hard liquor, they have to pay for it. So, it's kind of middle ground & doesn't cost too much.

we discovered that buying bulk like kegs and carafes/ pitchers of one signature drink was cheaper than a hosted bar and if you do decice to go with a hosted bar a consumption bar tends to be cheaper than by the hour. that way we only pay for the family and friends who do drink. that works for us because my family doesn't drink and that's the bigger part of the invite list. we're still lokking at options though. i'd rather just have a running tab for the wedding party and cash bar for everyone else.

Having a hard time trying to figure how the host bar thing works. How exactly do you get an estimate of the price? Without adding the wine and such? Can someone explain a little to me please?
