San Juan, Puerto Rico- What to do?

Hi Ladies,

Thanks so much for your responses to my previous post.  As a result of your advice, we've decided to go to San Juan and I am so excited!  We will be in the Condado Beach area for 10 days.  Any suggestions on what to see or do, and where to eat?  Also, has anyone been there for New Years' Eve?  If so, any suggestions on where to go?

Thanks in advance,
Stacie

  • I'm so excited for you! I suggest you see El Morro and Old San Juan and eat at Marmalade Restaurant & Wine Bar. I've never been there for NYE, but the Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza has a big NYE event.
    Hope that helps,
    Kate

  • I'm so jealous! San Juan is AMAZING.

In Condado--make sure you go to Rum Jam. On a Monday preferably because food is 1/2 off. It's a modern restaurant with delicious food and really cool rum -based drinks. I wanna say that drinks are half off on Sunday?

Waikiki---get the mofongo. Really, really good food here.

    San Juan--
-Cafe La Princesa--service is eh but the food is spectacular and it's incredibly romantic. Live music. Go at night.

-the Parrot Club. Their signature drinks are amazing. Seriously we keep trying to recreate them. Food is very good too.

I second the forts. We skipped them the first time we went (though we did get engaged right by one of them) and I was SO GLAD we went there the 2nd time. It costs $3 to get in. They are really cool and absolutely beautiful.

Make sure you go to el Yunque rainforest. There are many tours you can do or you can go by yourself. We did both. It's an easy drive if you rent a car or there are companies that will pick you up if you do a tour.

If you rent a car, go through Enterprise. Do not let your hotel talk you into going with a "local" company. I'm serious.

The Biobay is very cool. We also did a catamaran tour with snorkeling and that was really fun.

Honestly just explore. We walked down the street in Condado and found a massive Jazz festvial that was really cool and we had heard nothing about. If you hear live music outside a bar, go in and check it out. My favorite things we've done in Puerto Rico just happened by us trying random stuff and taking walks.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
