Scrubbing bubbles shower cleaner

I know a little while back there was a post about how we clean certain things, and a few other posters said they have the automatic cleaner.  We have had it for a while, but we are on our at least second, if not third one, and I need to replace it again.  Does anybody else have problems with theirs?  It flies through batteries which is one thing, but after a while we keep needing to replace it because it just stops working, even with new batteries.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I have some shopping to do later and am wondering if its even worth getting another one.

  • I would say use your good ol' hands beachy :)

  • Haha i'm too lazy to do that.  Actually I just googled their website and found tips for cleaning it and what to do, and just tried what they said and it works again.  Funny though how I turn to here before their website.

  • are those expensive?  how do they actually clean?

  • I don't think they're that bad.  Its been a while since we bought the last one, so maybe like $10-15?  They keep the shower really clean.  I actually never clean it other than spraying that.

  • We had one that went through batteries like crazy, and just stopped working.  We tried the tips on the website - cleaning it and using petroleum jelly on the battery leads - and that brought it back to life for maybe a week.  The thing lasted less than 6 months.  I decided they were junk and went back to cleaning the shower by hand, but it's my least favorite chore so I gave the cleaner another chance.

Our second one has been working for over a year now with no issues.  We've only changed the batteries twice (!).  So apparently it really varies.

  • It is for tile or glass or both?  Haha, I suppose I could google too

  • I think it cost $20 at most, and we have to buy new cleaning solution for it once every month or so for around $5.  I think it's worth it.  Apparently it sprays the cleaner, and then the water leftover from your shower allows it to run down the sides of the shower and tub to clean it.  It wouldn't seem like it would work, but it does a really good job on our shower.  It even keeps the curtain clean.

  • It works on both - my mom has a glass door and it works for her too.

  • It works for all showers KJB.

Thanks Laura, good to know.  Yeah we don't have any petroleum jelly so I was going to grab some at the store.  I just saw a commercial today that they have a newer version out with a heavy scrub option or something.  Basically I'm guessing it sprays double the amount.  So maybe I'll buy a new one and put the old one in the guest bathroom.

  • Oh ok - We've got a stall shower with 2 glass walls and 2 tile walls, just curious.  I always just clean it by hand, but it's a biitch to get the glass clean.  Especially if I get lazy and don't squeege it after every shower.

  • We actually bought the jelly just for the shower cleaner, which is kind of sad.  I think cleaning it is what revived it shortly, though.  There was some black stuff in the battery compartment, I think the batteries were leaking or something.  That can't be good.

My mom used to do the squeegee thing.  Then she went on vacation and my sister was in charge for a month and the door got disgusting.  She bought the shower cleaner because it's supposed to clean dirty showers as well, and it was clean within a week.

  • Yeah there was some black gunk in mine just now too.  I got most of it off though.  Also i know that the last time I changed the batteries I didn't remove the bottle out of it which it says you have to.  I guess I just never read the directions on it.  I want one for the guest bathroom anyways.  Its never used now because I'm alone but when H is here we'll use that shower too so we can get ready quicker, and there a lot of people coming to visit me/us after the new year, so its going to get used a lot.  And I'm just way to lazy to scrub it by hand.

  • Hmm maybe i'll pick one up.  I hate cleaning the bathroom.  But a dirty bathroom is so incredibly disgusting.

  • I know dirty showers and bathrooms in general ick me out.  I keep mine really clean, except for in our master bath there is always hair on the floor.  My hair gets everywhere so quick, and I hate lugging the vacuum upstairs constantly.  But I clean everything else much more frequently, and nobody sees that bathroom anyways.  I saw a tiny vacuum for $10 at Target yesteday and am kicking myself now that I didn't just get it to keep upstairs.

Also, I never thought I would judge people based on the cleanliness of their home, but I have definitely become that person.

  • I grew up with a clean freak mother.  I definitely didn't get that gene.... she probably cringes every time she comes to my house.  It's not dirty - just cluttered.  We have way too much stuff.  I've been trying to get rid of things.  I don't know how 2 people have so much stuff everywhere.  It could be just that I'm lazy.

  • Haha my mom is the same way.  When she comes to visit in March I told her I'm not going to bother cleaning before she gets here because she'll probably just want to clean anyways.  Luckily we have enough room in this place to put everything away.  We have 2 big closets in the extra bedrooms so that took care of a lot of stuff, and we have a garage with a lot of shelving.

The one thing I am horrible about is dusting.  I hate dusting, and it drives me nuts.  Which reminds me that I need to get more swiffer dusters today.  We have 2 air purifiers in the house, one upstairs and one down, and that seems to help a lot.  But I still need to dust and am cringing thinking about doing it.

  • My biggest problem is pet hair.  It's everywhere.  I guess that's what happens when you have a lot of pets :)  You would think we have plenty of storage, but somehow it's not enough.

  • Oh yeah Stewie's hair gets everywhere.  I can't imagine what its like for you.

    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Now you made me start dusting.  I wish I had a H who cared just a little bit about not living in a pigsty.  When I lived by myself in my condo, it was so clean!  Yep, I'm blaming him.

  • not a clue.  I have a maid.

But I adore the scrubbing bubbles commercial!  I laugh when they chant "scrubbing bubbles, scrubbing bubbles"  then down the drain with them!

I like the commercial with the one giant scrubber who gets stuck in the drain.  I don't know why, I just think it's kind of cute.

Just so you all know, I officially have one of these on my wishlist now.  All cause of you.  I HATE cleaning the shower.  And this thing sounds like it might be my saving grace.  Checking BBB to see if they have it so I can add it to my registry...

EDIT:  I don't think BBB has it.  I'll have to fight the holiday crowds at Target to get it.

  • Shortee I just bought the newer version yesterday at Target for $17 or $18.  I do love it and it keeps the shower amazingly clean.  Now I just know how to keep it working, since I never read the directions before.
