A veil to go with an ivory/champagne dress

The dress was my mother's, and my grandmother's before her.  Somehow, it needs absolutely no alterations (lucky!) and will be possible to wear with a bra.  It's beautiful in a traditional way.  As the practical, practical girl I am, I cannot even think about buying another dress!

The trouble is finding a veil to go with it.  There is a veil that comes with it, but it covers up too much of the head and is old and rusty anyway.  Either way, I'd need completely new material.  My mother and grandmother both described the dress as ivory-colored as they took it out, but I would say it's more of a champagne color.

I have seen some veils in the color, but I haven't found one that actually looks good with the material and the color yet.  Whenever I see a veil in that color, it tends to look like it's dirty (like how a newspaper yellows) rather than like it's supposed to look like that.

Does anyone have any recommendations?  Online pictures or shops?  Also, I live in the Sacramento/Bay Area region in California, so if you know of any shops that may be around here, that would be great.

Thanks!

  • Have you looked through Etsy yet? There are LOTS of veil designers there, and most of them are completely willing to work with you until you get what you want.

To go a step further, there is the Alchemy feature where you can request exactly what you're looking for and sellers can bid on your proposal. If you post a pic of your wedding dress, someone on there will probably be able to match it or design something perfect for it.

    Good luck!

PS. I think it's AWESOME that your family has had such good luck with passing down a dress. I didn't know that actually worked outside movies!!
  • Thanks for the help!  As soon as I'm home from school (I'm a math teacher on my prep period at the moment) I'll take a good look at that site.  As I was looking down through other posts on these boards, I saw a lot of people recommend it.  I'll definitely have to check it out.
  • I ordered an ivory point d'esprit veil from distinctiveveils.com, and when it arrived I realized it is a dark ivory/light champagne colour.
It's got a neat vintage texture/pattern in the tulle.
    Check out their site...

  • I had the same trouble finding a veil to match my champagne dress.  I ended up making my own using tulle I found on hancockfabrics.com.  It's really very simple to do, there are instructions all over online.  PM me if you want to know exactly what I ordered, I don't remember off the top of my head.
  • I have a light ivory dress and am also having trouble finding a veil to go with it.  I agree all the ivory veils look dirty!  My mom wants me to wear a white veil...she thinks it looks okay but I don't think it looks right.  We might end up making mine also.
