Re: QOTD 12/6

  • Copying the story from our wedding website :)

Chris planned a last minute camping trip for us in Ventura on Cinco de Mayo weekend. On Saturday morning we walked about 15 minutes down the beach and stopped to take pictures. I was distracted by our dog Riley who was pulling me further down the shore and Chris asked me where I was going. I told him I was just going where Riley took me! He asked me to come over by him and he started telling me how much I meant to him. I noticed him start to reach into the camera bag and soon realized he was pulling out a ring box. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and of course I said YES!

Chris had secretly taken my Dad to lunch early that week to ask for his permission, which I loved. After the proposal at the beach we went back to our campsite. Our neighbors found out that we had just got engaged and invited us to a party they were having. It was a lot of fun!

  • FI had told me he was taking his car in to get looked at, of course I thought nothing of it since his car truly did have issues at the time. FI comes back and asks if I want to go take our dog for a walk at this beautiful park near our house, I said sure!

We get to the park and we walk around. FI kept wanting to go over by the ampitheatre and I was like why do we wanna go over there there's nothing there- let's walk on the trails! So we walked on the trails and got most of our dog's energy out. FI kept wanting to go to the ampitheatre and I was like ok whatever. Then FI starts getting down on the ground and I ask if he's okay since he sometimes gets random aches and pains and he's like yeah I'm fine. And then FI goes, can I ask you a question and I'm like yeah sure what's up! Then he pulls my ring out of his pocket and asks me to marry him, I was in shock! I immediately called my parents to tell him and sent a mass text message out to my friends, my phone almost died that day from my friends calling and texting back lol!

We were driving back from vacation at his Grandparents winter home in Florida, and we stopped at Lookout Mountain where my family and I had gone on family trips. I could tell somethingwas up because he kept hanging back and wanting me to stay next to him.

I also already knew he was going to do it on this vacation, yes he is that easy to predict...

It was in public at the gardens and his grandparents were sight-seeing with us so it was absolutely mortifying. The first questions his parents asked when FI called them was "How much is this going to cost us."

He did call my Father and ask for permission before and my parents are completely happy about it!

  • So many romatic proposals.  Ours was not as traditional.

Our anniversary of our first date is Dec. 26.  Yes, the day after Christmas.  So, we always do something special on that day.  Last year, we celebrated Christmas Eve with his family and Christmas with mine, and my mom gave all of us a nice cash gift as our present.  So, when we got home and started opening our Christmas and anniversary gifts to each other, he told me he didn't buy me a ring.  He had thought about it, but didn't do it, because he didn't have time and was really stressed out about it (he has major anxiety issues).  So, we made the decision to use the money my mom gave us to buy a ring together.

We went shopping on Dec. 26, our 4 year anniversary, and picked out the ring.  He was glad I helped pick it out, because it ended up being completely different from what I had described to him as what I wanted.  But, in my defense, I never really look at jewelry, so I didn't know what I wanted until I saw it on my finger.

After we bought the ring, we went to Dave & Busters, which is where we had our first date.  The manager bought us 2 giant desserts to celebrate.  We only told my mom the day we got engaged, because she was heading south for the winter.  We made it official with everyone else 2 days later when his family came to our house to send his sister off back to Oregon, and we surprised them with the news.  Then, he got on one knee, so we'd have the pictures to prove it.
  • I had gone to my FI's house for Christmas day after he spent Christmas Eve with my family.  He'd said something that morning about how I wouldn't be his gf for long after I said how much I loved being his gf.  Sooo....he kinda gave it away early.

We were opening presents with his family and he kept pointing out one in the tree.  It was small and got my hopes up.  But of course it wasn't a ring it was a watch or something for someone else.  So at that point I kind of gave up hope on him proposing.

We ate ourselves into a sort of food coma and took a 4 hour nap (maybe longer I don't remember).  Then he suggested we go drive around since we didn't have anything else to do.  He showed me his hometown and told me about growing up there.  We went to this little lake/pond thing and got out and walked onto the dock.  He tried to show me a fish or something and it was dark so I couldn't see anything in the water.  I said something about how it was sad Christmas was almost over and he replied that it wasn't over yet because I still had one more present.  Then he got down on one knee when I turned around and pulled out the ring and proposed and I said yes.

It was sweet and I wanted it to just be the two of us.  I'd already seen the ring about a month before, but had no idea when he was going to propose.  He asked my dad if he could marry me on Christmas Eve.

  • I sometimes wish we'd gotten pictures of him proposing, but we got a few afterwards that his parents took.

My parents were happy for us, but didn't think he'd propose so soon since he didn't specify a date when he asked my dad.  They've warmed up to it, and considering we're having a long engagement, it worked out well.

  • It's a story but a good one .... It was right after we went cave tubbing in Belize on a cruise my hair was mess and wouldn't cooperate lol he wanted take a pic of us and set up timer on my camera. After a min of not going off I walked up to it like piece of crap why aren't you working lol he had out it on record and I was like wtf how did it get in record lol. We went to the balcony of our room to watch the sail away and he's says to me take a shot you'll need so I do no biggie having a drink as we sail away no big deal we did every night. Well I turn to face him and he's down on his knee holding a ring. I haven't the slightest idea what he said all I could say was is this real, seriously omg for real lmao speechless. He finally says yes it's real what your answer yes yes of course! He put my amazing ring on and all of a sudden we hear what's going on he leans over the balcony and says I'm engaged she said yes!!! Perfect proposal for us!!! I just wish I new what he said lol
  • We had talked about ring styles and gone looking around Christmastime 2011. I knew it would happen, I just didn’t know when. Fast forward to the end of May. He tells me “hey honey, can you print off the ring, it’s not online anymore”. Real smooth right? The band I picked out must have been discontinued or something so I spent some time looking to find one that was as close to what I remembered. The first weekend of June we were headed out on a road trip with 2 other couples to Kansas City to watch the Twins-Royals series and were set to leave Sunday morning the 3rd. Saturday he was busy running some practices and had a different game to coach & whatnot, said he would have time to come home and mow in between, run to Target, etc. (It was really bushy and plus I HATE mowing). I started thinking he would be stretched for time so I wound up mowing the front and back, sent him a text to not worry about it, it’s done. It’s 8:00 at night when he gets home and I pointed toward the backyard and joked “You owe me big time!”  I stayed downstairs to wait on laundry and he went up to pack. A few moments later he hollered down “Hey honey! You should come see this!” He had the ring box sitting on my pillow and said, “Is this big time enough for you? Will you marry me?” I of course was in shock and was speechless for a couple minutes until I cried and said yes. He said he even had gotten my dad’s number out of my phone to call earlier in the week to ask permission!

  • My grandmother had passed away in June 2008 and left her engagement ring to me. I had been wearing it on my right hand since then, and had expressed to FI that since I wanted to be able to wear her ring and it was silly to wear 2 diamond rings, that he could propose with that ring and we could discuss later whether we'd have it re-set or not.

FI proposed on the way home from vacation in July 2011. Driving home from Myrtle Beach (we live in MA), we were staying over at South of the Border, a very cheesy mexican-themed, really run-down tourist trap.. haha... It was a place he used to stay at as a little kid, so it means a lot to him. We went for a walk of the grounds after he checked us in and he bought us tickets to take the elevator to the top of the sombrero that overlooks the grounds (did I mention this place is cheesy?)... We were the only ones up there at the time... He took my hands, gave a 2-minute long speech about how amazing I am and how fantastic we are together and how we've both made each other better people by being in each other's lives... and as he was getting down on one knee, he took the ring off my right hand, put it into an empty ring box he had in his pocket, and then while on one knee, asked me to marry him... I cried and said yes and hugged him and he cried too... It was super sweet.

So we head back down to the car and we're getting in to drive over to the other side of the place (he had reserved their honeymoon suite which had a jacuzzi hot tub in the room)... but the car wouldn't start!! It turned out the battery died and we had to have the car towed and the battery replaced... So while dealing with that, we missed dinner at the local restaurant, so we got take out from a diner and ate out of styrofoam that night... He wanted to surprise me with the jacuzzi, so he put bubble bath in it and got it started w/o my knowing... The bathroom literally FILLED with suds... so he's dumping them into the shower as fast as he can... turns on the shower to try to wash them away... as it turns out, the showerhead was broken and part of the spray was spraying the ceiling... and part of the ceiling fell on his head while he was trying to brush the bubbles down the drain...

It was a comedy of errors that night, but certainly a night we'll never forget... hahaha.

  • I love reading everyones stories...this is copied from our wedding website.
This happened August of 2011 :-)

James and I decided to take some time off to spend time just the two of us together. We wanted to do things that we do not normally have a chance to do due to school, work and other activities we are involved in. So the wednesday before we got engaged we went and got a couples massage, thursday we went to the columbus museum of art and then friday we decided we would go on a picnic to Goodale park. That friday before the picnic we went to our favorite sandwich shop, picked up our sandwiches then headed over to the park.
We picked a shady spot under the tree, layed the blanket down and started to eat. We started chatting about things as we normally do and then James brought up our relationship. Our 5 year dating anniversary and our 1 year living together anniversary were coming up and we were just talking about how amazing it is that we have lasted this long and other cheesy stuff.
To get the full picture you must imagine me stuffing my face full of food due to the fact that I had yet to eat that day. So I'm looking down about to open a bag of chips when James says "I want to make sure that our relationship continues to grow for the rest of our lives". I see some movement on his part and that is when I figured out he was going to ask me to marry him, which he did about 5 seconds later using his late mothers engagement ring. Of course I said yes and proceeded to ask him if he had asked and or told my mother which he did. I hugged him, cried then asked some random stranger to take a picture of us. It was perfect!!

I love reading these :) I also copied ours from our wedding site.

The proposal happened on a very bittersweet day. He had planned to do it on the Red's field during a stadium tour on Saturday March 17th. But FI's Uncle  (who was more of a friend than an uncle to him) tragically passed away March 13, 2012. His memorial service was Monday March 19th. It was a very emotional day, spent with family. His uncle's wife pulled FI aside and assured him that his uncle would not want him to keep waiting to propose to me. So that night after we got home, I was about to get into my PJs when he pulled me over, started talking about how he appriciates me being there for him, and how much he loves me, and was giving me tons of hugs and kisses (mainly because of nerves, I'm sure lol) then said "I just have one question for you" and got down on one knee, and proposed! I thought he was joking until I actually saw the ring! He wanted the proposal to be so perfect, involving the Reds in some way or another, when really, the way it happened couldn't have been any more perfet, meaningful, and special. :) He was even a respectful gentleman and asked my parents about 3 weeks before. :)

  • Joshua and I started to look for engagement rings for months. I found the one I loved I wasn't expecting it anytime soon. It was around Christmas time. One night Joshua and I came home from dinner which btw he was acting really strange.... He ended up falling asleep. He woke up and saw me looking at the picture of my ring. He asked me " Do you think I have it"? I told him no. He then pulled out a black cardboard box and he didn't say anything. I didn't believe that the ring was in the box. Since Valentine's day of last year I have been asking for a pair of diamond earrings. I just thought I was getting my Christmas present early. So then he pulled out the ring box and I told him that it wasn't in there. Then he opened up the ring box and there was my ring!!! He asked me to marry him I said yes of course!!!!!

  • My FI is a very casual kinda guy and he hates to dress up. I had been bugging him that I wanted to dress up and go out to a nice dinner.  A few days before Valentines Day he told me he was going to take me out to dinner to a fancy place and I never expected he was going to proposed.  He took me to my favorite restaurant which happens to be my favorite winery as well.  We had one of the best conversations and yummy food we had ever had and I honestly it never getting engaged never crossed my mind.  We were walking towards the car under this pathway full of roses with tinkle lights and he stopped me and got on his knees and started crying it was so cute !!!! I was SO EXCITED that I didn't cried which he makes fun of me.  It was very sweet and romantic ;);) this is the same resort we will spend the night of our wedding.
