Wanted: Ceremony location in Philadelphia!

I am looking for a location to hold our ceremony (reception site has already been booked). I'd like it to be in Philadelphia but an open to northwestern suburbs within 15 miles.

The rental fee can't be more than $1000 (hoping for closer to $500).

FI and I are not religious so I'm having such a tough time finding somewhere to hold a non-denominational wedding!

  • I found the venue I'm interested in through partyspace.com. Maybe you can try there? Mine's in Doylestown (Aldie Mansion) but there's a section for Philly and other suburbs. Here's the link if you want.

  • Oh, I just realized you requested *ceremony* sites. Maybe that's in there too?
  • I don't know what the rental fee is but the Horticilture Center's outdoor ceremony area is gorgeous.  I saw it at a flower show they had there.
  • I volunteer with the tall ship Gazela and they do rentals for weddings when the ship is in town. Rental is typically $1500 for 4-5 hour party rentals, but they would probably be willing to negotiate closer to $500-$1000 if you are just using the ship for a few hours for ceremony and pictures. The website is www.gazela.org. The only issue there is parking - the lots at Penn's landing can be pricey. We are planning to do our rehearsal dinner on the ship next Spring, though.

  • How many guests do you have?

What about the tea room in fairmount park?

  • I agree with greengirlwdg. The Horicultural Center is beautiful. I ran a 5K there last spring and it was stunning.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

The Horticulture Center is actually really expensive. It's $2150 just to rent the space, then they charge you for chairs.

The Tea Room doesn't work for us either -- they only allow 70 guests and they're not wheelchair accessible (we have an aunt in a wheelchair).

We expect to have a maximum of 100 guests at the ceremony.

    I'll keep looking!
  • We're also planning for our ceremony to be at the Aldie. The backyard area is beautiful -- with a fountain, gazebo, and huge white oak tree all great options as the background for the ceremony.

We're also having our reception there. It was an added perk that location and caterer come in same package -- makes life easier for us -- plus, the caterer (Jeffrey Miller) handles a lot in house, such as the wedding cake. They have their own pastry chef who makes all the cakes to order. Tasted the carrot cake. It was AMAZING. Can't wait!
