I think you are going to be hardpressed to find a true photojournalistic type photog for under $1000!  And no way for $500.  You may find someone "trying to make it" on Craigslist, but then what kind of confidence can you have in them.  What is you spend $1000 and the pictures are terrible, then you blew the money for crap.

I'd look for someone who is reasonable and has a reputation, or a formal business and try to get the best price.  $1000 will be pushing it.

I am using Cindy Guessford and her package is nearly 4 times what you're willing to spend.  Marc Anthony was a great price at about $2000 or so...

Yeah... That's pretty much the consensus from everyone I've spoken to.  Apparently I'm crazy for even considering $500.  I can't believe photos are SO EXPENSIVE!!!

What's a bride on a budget to do???

Good luck.  Other than going the Craig's list or student route, I doubt you're going to find someone who meets your needs for that price.  Realistically, in this region you should expect to pay $2-4k range for a quality photographer with a photojournalistic style.  Even for a bare-bones package because you're paying for their talent.

Do you have any friends with a love of photography and a dSLR camera?

U suggest you check with your local college and find a photography student who will do it for $500. You're really not going to find any professionals to do it for that amount. And you have to understand that to learn "photojournalist" style takes years and years to do properly. You probably think they just shoot without asking people to smile, but a good photographer needs to know how to bounce light and how to wait for the right moment.

And if you aren't going to hire a pro I strongly suggest you hold that kiss a while. If you just do a quick peck a non-pro might miss it.

my photographer is givng me 300-400 pictures, giving me 3 copies of my cds and the rights to it , making my album, a picture book for me, did my engagement photo for me and what not and is doing it all for about 650-700  bucks. i couldnt afford to spend 1,000 and plus for photography and she said she could work with my budget and thats what she did and im glad i have a flexible photographer.

I looked at several photographers, and some do have basic packages where you get the CD only for about 1300.00.  This was for an 8 hr time period and 350-500 pictures on the cd.  I selected one of the basic packages and also added a photo album and my total cost was 2100.00.  Included in this is an engagement session, 8 hrs, and two photographers.

I understand being on a budget but also keep in mind that the wedding is one day, but you'll have the pictures forever.

I have NO IDEA if these guys are an good, but I know you can get cheap photography from Artist House or one of their other studios. They have them in Bellmawr, Pitman, and Mullica Hill I think.  I think they have an overview package for like $695? Their page is linked on the local vendors site

<div>I am using Gale's Photography from Millville NJ.  She is the nicest person I have ever met and her and her husband are shooting our wedding.  That is two photographers and she is giving us all of the pictures on a DVD with all rights to print (you can order prints from her as well).  She is only charging us $500 dollars.  I was so excited!  She is going to be there all day and her work is absolutely gorgeous!  You may want to give her a call 856-765-9505.  I was so excited cause before I met with her all the other packages were at least 1000.</div>

You can check out our photog, David Humphreys.  We're paying more because we're getting a second photographer, but I think he has some plans around $1,200.  His website is www.dhumphreys.com.
