The VIllage Inn Rants/Raves

Hi folks,

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some rants or raves about the VIllage Inn--particularly those who have had their weddings there or know of people who have. I've heard that some people have had problems there, but I wanted to get some more opinions. Thanks!

I'm getting married there next April, so I can't give reviews of my wedding, but I have a good friend of my FMIL who was married there two years ago and just met another person over the weekend who was married there last year.

Both had nothing but great things to say with one exception. My FMIL's friend dealt with Jim ? (not sure of his last name) for the whole planning process and said he was difficult. I guess he's a bit abrasive and my FMIL's friend said that he didn't always listen to her or her husband. However, it's my impression that Jim is now more of a general manager/business manager and isn't directly handling the wedding planning there anymore. I have yet to meet him and I've been there several times to plan, sign contracts, etc.

However, since my FMIL's friend got married, they've hired a new sales rep/event coordinator, Alyson Devaney, who is absolutely amazing and the woman I met this past weekend who was married there last year said everything with Alyson was fantastic for her wedding as well. All of my interactions and correspondence has been with Alyson, and she was a huge part of my decision to have our wedding there.

We also did our tasting there, and the food was amazing. My FMIL, who is a lifelong waitress, said the food service and staff were really fantastic at her friend's - friendly and helpful, and honestly, she's not one to throw around service praise lightly.

I got married there last May.

My experience was positive. They did a nice job with everything but I would be wary of the deck. We hoped to have cocktails out there but because it was windy couldn't. It was 70 and sunny. It was very windy so just to be aware that just because its lovely outside doesn't mean the deck will work.

Jim is the planner from beginning to end. Alyson wasn't really doing wedding yets, she's more sales / marketing / asst. Jim knows his stuff - he'll make sure things move like clockwork. He also let us store all our stuff in his conference room / office a week before which helped make things less crazy the days leading up.

My only complaint is the front desk didn't understand that our rehersal was taking place the night before and sent my dad away. Make sure they know, b/c I think the people up front could not possibly care less about the events in the ballroom.

VI isn't great for pictures. It was sunny and windy so I don't love my outdoor shots. I should have gone to the Towers and done some there.

(I do not recommend my photographer, but you can get a sense of how the place photographs)

    Food was awesome

I would definitely second the warning on the deck.

Alyson has mentioned to me several times that out of every 10 weddings they have during the peak season, at least 4 have to be moved inside due to weather concerns (rain or wind). The wind just whips through that whole area of town.

I'm thinking that Alyson has taken over planning there all together, because when we were making a decision, I asked her if she would be the only person I would be dealing with throughout the planning process and on the day of, because I really felt like we clicked from the start. She assured me that she would be the person overseeing the event on the day of and would manage all of the details (coordinating vendor drop offs, etc.). She said that we would meet Jim when we did the final payment.

Tobi, your photos are beautiful and really making me excited for my wedding next year!

Two quick questions - who did you have as an officiant and did you have a rain plan for pictures? That's something I'm really trying to figure out, because it seems likely to me that early April won't be conducive to outdoor photos. You're right, too, in that the VInn is not terribly picture friendly.
