xp-Whoops: Amazon registry

Hi! I haven't posted in this board before, but I am getting ready for my August wedding. I've mostly been posting in my month board.

I went to manage my Amazon.com registry because I added a last minute thing, and apparently it tells you if items have been purchased, because I just saw 2. I thought I had it set so it wouldn't do that, but I think that was just for notifying me who bought what, and not to tell me when something has been purchased. I guess I shouldn't check on that anymore.

(But now that I saw something I'm getting, I'm really excited because I really wanted those!)

Does anyone else have an Amazon.com registry? Is there some way to turn this off that I am unaware of?

Yes, you can change the settings.  Log into your registry.  At the top you should see
"Anyone can search for and see this registry. See what they are.  Change Settings."  Change Settings is a hyperlink.  Click on it.  Uncheck "Yes, I would like to receive email updates about the status of my registry."

  • That is already unchecked. Right there on the manage registry page, it shows me which items have already been purchased. I didn't know it was going to do that automatically.
  • You can't change it, you can only try to control the urge and not look at it.  I look at mine daily.  It's a sickness :)

It's actually really helpful that it tracks it come time to write thank you notes (because it also captures the sender's address in case you don't have it on file - for example, gifts from family friends who weren't invited to the wedding).  Also, when you do decide to look at it, you can check to make sure you received everything that was purchased.  (One of my packages ended up being returned because I wasn't there to sign for it at the door.)
  • I'm sure I'll find it helpful in a few months, but right now, I'm annoyed that I can't just look at my stuff without knowing what has been purchased for me. I've used Amazon's wish lists before, and it doesn't tell you if something's been purchased--only if you go to the "see what they see" view. I guess I thought the wedding registry would be like that, but apparently not!

My shower is a surprise, so I don't know the exact date, but I do know that it's supposed to be at the end of this month, which was why I was trying to sneak in one more thing I remembered, haha. Guess I'll just have to control the urge!
  • I think Amazon does this because most wedding registries let you see what's been purchased- so that if it gets low on items, you can add more. I don't think there's a way to turn it off.
