Need a budget venue. Please help!

I have been looking for a while now for a venue to host our ceremony and reception...we plan on inviting 70-100 people in Sept-Oct 2013. I am planning on having to do some DIY projects so I can handle a less than PERFECT location to add some love to. I can't seem to find anywhere under $1,500. I just have such a hard time spending SO much on one day...I would prefer to stay within 2 hours of the Twin Cities...any ideas? I have even tried to think outside the box and I feel stuck. I have asked around and I don't know anyone with ample yard/house space...so that is out of the question. Any help is appreciated!!

  • I was married at the Rosemount Steeple Center. It was $1000 for a full day rental, including a room reset for the reception, $200 deposit, and $210 security fee for serving alcohol. There is no air conditioning but that wouldnt be an issue for october/september. There is also only a 1 person bathroom for men and 1 for women. We did have lines for the bathroom (150 people) but it was never more than three people deep.

  • That place is BEAUTIFUL and so reasonable! Are you able to bring in your own caterer and decorate (not that much would need to be done).

  • I feel your pain, my dear!!!

I am getting married this October, downtown Minneapolis. We are using the 514 studios. They are actually a photography studio downtown. They have a huge room with brick walls and high, vaulted, wood beamed ceilings. VERY cool space. Unique, a mash up of modern/industrial and old.

It cost us $1200 for the day, with a $500 deposit. You can do anything with the space, no required caterers or anything. Some parking in the back, with street parking around as well.

Great people to work with too.

Totally understand! We were in the same boat. We decided on Turtle's 1890 Social Centre in Shakopee. I had low expectations when we went to see it, but in person it blew me away! It's really cool looking and the food/drink prices are totally reasonable.

Our wedding isn't until June 2013 but so far our communications with the owner have been great.

    Good luck!

  • I'm getting married at Centennial Lakes Park in Edina, the deposit was $1000. You can bring in all your own vendors, but do have to use their beverage provider. The centrum building holds 120 people and if you wanted to use the ampitheater for the ceremony, that's a small fee.

  • My reception is at Crow River Winery in Hutchinson, they have 2 halls available, both are brand new and gorgeous! I'm using the larger one(can fit 400) and it's only $800, you can choose your own caterer, they also have a smaller hall that I believe is much cheaper, they also have area's for ceremonies.

  • I would recommend trying community centers and gardens. There are lots of really nice ones out there...Woodbury's Central Park (indoor park), Shoreview Community Center, Eagan Community Center, Dakota Lodge in south st. paul, Plymouth has a lovely community center/park, Roseville's Muriel Sahlin Arboretum, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, and the Lyndale Rose Garden and Peace Garden in Minneapolis are just a few.

Another bonus is a lot of them let you bring in your own caterer and alcohol, which saves a fortune.

If you pick a nontraditional day, like a Sunday brunch, you can save a lot of money. You'd be surprised how much some of the venues drop their prices for Sundays (and also Fridays). I know of a Sunday brunch wedding that took place at the University Club on Summit in St. Paul, and they only had about 60 guests. There is also this Reverend's website which has some venue prices in a comparison matrix, but I think some of the pricing is out of date. However, it does give you a sense of which venue costs less than others.

The site (outside) looks beautiful :) Do you have any pictures of the inside? There's no gallery on their website...

I sent a message earlier about this venue. Here's a portion of the response I got, in case anyone is p[lanning a wedding next year:
the City will be soon starting a construction project on the attached property of a 3 story senior apartment complex. The area around the Steeple Center will be a construction site for most of next year. You will have access to the Steeple Center, however there will be orange fencing and construction equipment and materials on the property.
