Help! Need advice to do with name change

So we get married in 10 days, and I really need to book a flight for November. So, here is my question, do I book under my new last name or my old.  I really don't want to wait until after Nov. to change my name, but want to make sure I can get my new drivers license by then.

Any advice would be appreciated!

What is the process to get a new license? Need our marriage certificate first right? when do we get that?

Sorry Im brain dead on this stuff...
thanks!

Not sure on what to book under, but you can't change your name until you get your official license in the mail. That can take up to six weeks.  Then you take that to the DMV to get your new driver's license.  They clip your old one and give you a paper slip to go with it until your new one comes in the mail...up to another six weeks.  Most credit card companies require that you show them your marriage license and new drivers license to change your name on your card (or at least, mine did).  I think my marriage license came in 3.5 weeks (ramsey county) and the DL 4 weeks (Roseville). HTH

Almost a year later, and I'm still finding things that I haven't gotten updated yet.  The latest was my eye doctor's office.

My marriage certificate was waiting in the mailbox when I came back from my week long 'mini moon" last October.  My drivers license took the ENTIRE 6 weeks to come back - in fact I ended up calling the DMV because it had been so long.  If it were me personally, I'd book it under your current name to be safe and bring all your documents with you (copy of marriage certificate and clipped license, etc.) just so that you can demonstrate that you are, in fact, who you say you are.

Thanks ladies! That is very helpful! I think you are right, I will book the flight under my maiden name and just go to change everything after the trip. Its really only a little over a month after so I can wait :)

    Thanks again!

I would book everything under your maiden name.  Just dont' change your passport yet.  You could probably could continue to change your name on everythign else and use your passport as your maiden name proof?  Then you don't have to wait to get the ball rolling on all of your other name changes?  That's what I was planning on doing if we travel over Christmas.

ETA: Now that I think about this... I'm not sure how 'legal' it is? Maybe you should ignore me ;)

If you have your passport in your maiden name, you can book a flight with your maiden name. That's what we are doing for our honeymoon in January. My name is changed on everything now (although still waiting for a few things to come in the mail) but our travel agent said as long as your passport and the name on the reservation is the same, that's all that matters. Since you may not be able to get a new passport in time (although you can just do a name change on it) you can change all your other stuff to your new name, and leave your passport.

I booked my honeymoon flight in my new married name. I had my license with the corner cut in my maiden name with the papers in my new married name. I had no problems getting on any of the flights.
