Dessert Reception

I have a quick question...our reception will start at 9 pm. We have paid for a dessert reception (and we're not skimping on the amount of pastries, chocolate, etc. by any means), but what I'm wondering is . . . will our guests be expecting a dinner? I mean 9 pm seems a little late for dinner. Am I wrong? Is dessert totally cheesy?

If I were invited to a 9pm reception, I definitely wouldn't be expecting dinner. I think a dessert reception would be fine in this situation, since you aren't having your reception during a prime meal hour. Make sure you mention it on the invitations in some way, such as "Dessert reception to follow". However, I think it might be a good idea to have a cheese and cracker platter and maybe some dry snacks or something to break up some of the sweetness of the desserts. I know if I eat too many sweets I get sick to my stomach.

I would not expect dinner, either. And I am a huge fan of desserts, so I would love your reception.

Can you put on your invite "dessert reception to follow"?

I don't think people would expect dinner, but if dessert is all you're having I'd be sure to have a couple of low carb options just in case anyone in your crowd is diabetic.   This is something we had to consider since my mom is diabetic.  We're including a special low carb cheesecake made with splenda  (i can barely tell the difference) so she doesn't have to abstain from all the fun.  Berries are also fairly diabetic friendly.

Thanks, y'all! Those were helpful! Yeah, we are gonna have some little finger sandwiches and cheese & crackers...so hopefully diabetics and non-sweet eaters will be ok. Thanks again!
