Just wondering........

Hello Fellow Knotties!!!

So I was just sitting in my office bored.. ( cuz it's Columbus Day and the office is actually closed... why did I come to work today again???) Anyhoo, I was just going over my check list of things left to do for the wedding and I realized that pretty much things seem to be very much on schedule.... and I am really ahead of things

Have any of you guys ever had that nagging feeling in the back of your head wondering why the HEEZY did we pick a wedding date sooooo far away? LOL

I'm soooo ready.................. Am I just getting antsy excited feet???

    I waas engaged December 24th, 2008.  I was married October 2, 2010.

When we picked our date, I had just had the trial version of a surgery in October 2008 that required a permanent version which was scheduled for December 2008 (the trial is to test it out).  We thought that with such a great improvement from the trial, and based on all the other factors, I would get the surgery and do what I needed to do.  But we also figured that it might take a while to get things scheduled, we didn't know how long healing time would be, etc.  My whole goal was to walk down that aisle pain free, with no crutch or aid.

Little did I know I was in for the fight of my life.

They (worker's comp) denied my permanent surgery.  They denied it 36 hours before the surgery, too- the worst way and time to find out about it all.  This meant that I had to drop out of work and school, basically became an invalid and bedridden, used a wheelchair and a cane to get around, my DH devoted himself to taking care of me, and to top it off I had to fight them in court.  It was a long drawn out battle, that finally culminated this February in a court date.  Yes, it took over a year to finally get into the court- and it's for a serious medical condition.  I basically had to sit around for a year, on heavy duty meds, waiting for them to approve the date, seeing doctor after doctor who is telling me "you have this disease and you need surgery" but not being allowed to have the surgery, fighting while in excrutiating pain.  And all this while trying to plan a wedding!

The state of DE is a maze of a mess when it comes to worker's comp, and the laws favor the employER not the employEE (why do you think so many businesses incorporate in DE?  It's not just for the banking laws!).  You have to go through different steps and levels and other types of trials before being allowed a court date.  I got the court date in February of this year.  The panel (it's a panel, not a judge) overwhelmingly supported me and not just the surgery, but any other health care I need for this disease.  They basically told my former employer to sit down, shut up, and stop playing games.

So I had my surgery.  But we didn't find out about winning until end of May (my mom's birthday, actually- best birthday present ever she said!).  Great, so now I have to have spinal surgery while trying to deal with the rush of wedding stuff.  I had spinal surgery on July 19th, and it changed my world.  I am so much better because of it.  But I had to heal, which took a while- I was only cleared to do things like drive 2 weeks before my wedding.  I was in bed healing with a 4.5" incision on my spine and a 3" incision on my left upper butt cheek, and I am frantically trying to get wedding stuff into place.  Since much of the wedding stuff can't be done until the 3 months before the wedding, I was basically pulling my hair out.

But I did it.  And while I thought when we picked a date "it's so far away!", if I had chosen a date sooner, I would not have been able to walk down pain free with no cane, wheelchair, or heavy duty pain meds.  I would not have lost 40+ lbs (water weight from the disease and meds plus fat from not being able to do anything; the minute I was up and moving I was losing weight!) and fit into my dress perfectly with no alterations.  I wouldn't have been able to dance at my own wedding.  And I wouldn't have gotten great deals on all my wedding stuff and vendors since i booked so far out!

So while it may seem far away, it really isn't.  And that day goes by so fast- cherish it.  Cherish this time of promise that you have made.  You will be husband and wife for quite a long time, but you won't be engaged for long at all.  In the long scheme of things, it really isn't that long, and it will creep up on you before you know it.  Plus, you have time to make sure everything gets done.

And while you may think you have everything done, I am sure you can find something to do- trust me, from a bride who waited until the week of her wedding to do those special touches, DO THEM NOW!  You will save yourself time and headache, especially since you can't do certain things that have to wait right now- addressing invites, escort cards and seating arrangements, thank you cards for your shower, addressing thank you cards for your guests coming to the wedding, exact ceremony details, all of that has to be done much closer to the wedding.

What exactly do you have done?  What vendors do you have booked?  I am sure we can help you come up with something wedding related to do, and my advice is to get it out of the way while you have the time to relax and breathe about it all.Cool

Yes.  I feel like we could have planned the damn thing in 6-8 months instead of 13.  Everything felt really drawn out.  But I didn't do a lot of DIY.

Based on your list, you still have to:

    Buy wedding bands
Buy/write/print paper products (invitations, programs, escort cards)
Ceremony order... write vows if needed... and ceremony music
Music for DJ (once you pick one) including special songs
Schedule rehearsal and if needed rehearsal dinner
    Hotel room block if needed
    Transportation if needed

If you haven't started already, begin to collect guests' addresses.

Also think about any keepsakes you may want to buy like cake serving sets, personalized items (hangers, napkins, handkerchief, etc), frames, memorial items...
