  The cocktail hour is there so you can have an hour to take pictures.

  
  

  But, what we are doing is taking all the pictures without FI and me together before the ceremony, then after the ceremony we are taking all of the pictures of us together. Our reception is only heavy hors d'oeuvres, so we're not having a legitimate cocktail hour, the guests will start to eat while we take pictures and we'll show up when we're done.

  We decided a month before the wedding to do a reveal for the same reason.  We are so happy we did it and don't regret it one bit.  The stress of the day just melts away and you can enjoy everything together.  Plus you get wonderful pictures of that moment (mine are in my married bio).
  
  That being said, we still took some portraits of ourselves after the ceremony and missed our cocktail hour.   So if that is important to you, make sure you allow plenty of time.

  I was starting to think about doing a 'First Look' session, because I thought it might be easier, but I mentioned it to FI and he was DEAD SET against it.  He really wants that traditional moment of me walking down the aisle toward him. 
  
  As it is now, we have 1 hr between the church and the start of the cocktail hour (pretty common in the catholic church b/c weddings are generally at about 3pm).  We are doing every photo we can before (me and the girls, him and the boys, with the parents, etc.) and we'll get the rest in the hour after the ceremony (we have to be out of the church by 5 anyway) so we can still go to our cocktail hour (I'm hoping to get done quickly enough that we won't miss ANY of the cocktail hour - I'd like to do a receiving line if we get there early enough.
  
  I think if you have a photo list, and order them logically (don't bring people up then sit them down then bring them up again 2 photos later) it shouldn't take THAT long to get all the ones you want.  Anyway, the non-posed photos are usually more fun :-)

  im a professional photographer and many including myself have an 'after the fact' photo session. the day after the wedding you two get dressed up again and go out and have a whole day of doing every shot that you want. it gives you more time with your family and friends, you get to enjoy your day that youve spent months or even years planning, you dont feel as rushed and the day after allows you to go to different locations, do more daring things, and you two (your new hubby and yourself) get to bask in the glow that is your new marriage. some photographers ask for an extra amount but im sure you can work with your photographer and see if they have an idea if you FH is dead set on not seeing you.

  Google "Trash The Dress" its a photo session the next day, dont let the name scare you, you dont actually have to trash your dress. I have seen some beautiful pictures that you just wouldnt have time to take the day of your wedding, so its a great idea. We will for sure be doing it.
