Pardon my ignorance, but

I've seen these pictures of brides and grooms, sitting on chairs on the dance floor with their backs to each other, sometimes holding up a shoe... what's that? I've never seen it before until looking through photographers' blogs and websites.

Thanks!

Re: Pardon my ignorance, but

  • It's a game.  Usually the bride and groom each hold one of her shoes and one of his shoes (or Barbie and Ken or they just raise their hands).  You come up with a list of "Who is" questions ("who wears the pants in the relationship?" "who is the messiest?"), and each of you raises the appropriate shoe (or whatever) for their answer.  The B&G have their backs to each other so they cannot see what the other is answering.

We played it at an engagement party, but I honestly think it would be kind of obnoxious to stop a reception to play it...

Is it the Newlywed Game (or something like that)? I haven't seen it IRL though so I don't know how it works.
  • I read about it on the knot a few weeks ago. Basically you hold one of your shoes and one of your fiance's shoes. Then the DJ asks questions such as Who wears the pants in the family? Who does the dishes more? Who likes to eat more? ETC and say if your the bride and you think you wear the pants more you put your shoe up or his if he is more of the man. And so the game goes on.

  • oh, okay. Thanks for the responses. Meh, I'll pass. I'd prefer doing it in a smaller setting than at the wedding.

<div>I agree!  It seems more like a couples' shower thing even, not at the reception!</div>

  • I have never seen this done, nor have I ever even heard of this prior to now.  I agree with Professor - do it at a shower and not at a reception.  Learn something new every day! lol

<div>My coordinator actually suggested we do it once -- she even had a video because one of her brides was on "Four Weddings."  I think it's fine if you have a pretty laid-back, small reception, but we had 250 guests who were dancing ALL NIGHT.  Even if we'd planned to do it I probably would have scrapped it when I saw how much fun everyone was having.</div>

professorscience - who was your DJ? He or she is probably already booked for my date, but it's won't hurt to try. Thanks!
  • We used Cratin Sheffield with Leforce Light and Sound.  If he's not available, they have a lot of great DJs that I know lots of people have used.

  • Just so you know, if that game is done at a wedding reception, it is something the DJ does, not the photographer
