DJ

I'm a newbie. Just got engaged August 13th .  We are planning a August 18, 2012 wedding here in Syracuse.  I have the church, reception, and photographer.  I am now on to DJ's and am having a hard time finding one at a decent price.  Any suggestions?  We are thinking about doing a photobooth as well.

    Welcome!

I found the DJ to be the toughest part, just because we were worried a bad dj could make or break the party.  When researching DJ's, we found they were all in the same range of approx. $895-$1200 for 4-5 hours. If you don't have "extras" like lighting, additional hours, karaoke, etc., you can save. I recently looked into Black Tie Entertainment and Great Music Company and both owners were really nice.

Welcome. Wow on how fast you booked so many vendors. Make sure you're not settling b/c theyre available here and now. You have a year, thats plenty of time to make sure you get what you truely want.. Just my two cents

I'm currently looking into DJs now as well, and I want one that seems "young and fun" I guess... and am having a tough time finding that in the area.  I've met with quite a few... I would suggest if you're available for it there is a wedding show in October.  You'll get to meet them in person and see what they look like/sound like and they usually have some equipment set up to look at.  My top preference is Ormond Entertainment, they they're totally out of my price range...

Right now I'm looking into Phenomenon.  They're actually in West Seneca and Rochester, but don't charge extra for coming to Syracuse.  They were at a bridal show I went to and seemed really fun.

The owner of Paradise Entertainment is right now 2nd on my list, but he's a little older.  He was nice enough, but I couldn't really picture him as 100% what I wanted.

I've been trying to get in touch with Sound Playground, which was suggested by a co-worker.  She and her cousin had him at their weddings, and she said they were great... but somehow it's seemingly impossible to get in touch with this guy... so I'm thinking of giving up on him.

The rest that I've met with:
I liked Vice Versa, they seemed very "chill" and they had a photobooth (kind of pricey though...), but FI didn't like them.  He wants someone a little more fun/crazy.

Another friend suggested At Your Request, who was nice enough, but didn't feel like he gave that "personal" touch.  I think he's decently priced though.

I met with Black Tie Entertainment and Great Music Company... they were nice, but not younger like what I'm looking for.  Black Tie I think has a photobooth too.

(Can you tell I'm very thorough when researching this stuff... it's taking FOREVER! lol But I'm like this with everything...)  :)  Good luck!!

bitofrits-  I used Ken Paradise from Paradise Entertainment (actually Dave, his assistantm did my wedding)... he was AWESOME!!!  The dance floor was packed the entire night.  And their uplighting made a huge impact on the mood of our reception... totally loved it.  Highly recommended.

We're using Jones Tones...the owner Jack is doing our wedding and he is young and hip and has a very good background in music.

We used skip Clark and he was amazing- the dance floor was packed all night and he was much cheaper than some of the others. We did a photobooth too but threw showcase sound. My suggestion on the photobooth... Book it 1 month before. Originally we were being quoted 1600 by companies and a month before we were getting multiple offers of 800!!!! Watch out for Syracuse photo booths and cny photo booths- they were awful to work with- ironically- KC was behind them.... One company- 4 or 5 website or company names- thought that was weird!!!
