Getting in Shape

Looking for a new start...

I have less then 4 months until my wedding and I still want to lose some weight before hand. I have lost 15 pounds already but have kinda stopped. I want to start a running program (I've never ran before). I want to start on something that isn't going to kill me from the start but will progress as I build up. Any ideas?

  • I have done what J&K did but instead of using distance, I went by the minutes. For example, run 2 minutes and walk 3 minutes the first week up to 25 minutes. Second week run 3-4 minutes and walk 2 minutes. I worked my way up to running 10 minutes straight.

  • The couch to 5k link is an excellent way to start running.

    Before you start though make sure you get your gait analyzed at a running store so you can be fitted in the propper shoes for you.

    I am in the same boat as you and I just started the C25K program and I am really happy with it.
  • I am a 3rd "YES" for the C25K plan! My sister and brother-in-law did it and not only lost weight but have now started running 5K's all of the time! Just like anything else, start slow and don't get disappointed if you're not running a marathon in a week. Keep at it and you'll do great!! :)

  • thanks guys! is it easier to do it on a treadmill or just out on a track?
