horrible site visit today at my venue and 3 weeks away

Hey Everyone
So when i booked my venue, the foyer had a dark carpet.  She told us it would be replaced, we booked it and thought nothing of it.  As it turns out, this new carpet is a sheer disaster.  Apparently many the stains will not come out and they have no intention of replacing it as they are a not for profit.

I find it funny that they will pay $700 every two weeks to have the carpet cleaned but not get a new carpet.  For that money they could have awesome tile in the foyer and it would last forever.

What the heck am I supposed to do now.  That ist he first thing you see and it looks like a dump.  I don't even know if I have any bargaining leverage.

I am not happy.  And of course, my mother's first time seeing the place and I can tell on her face she hates it, more specifically hates the nasty carpet.

thoughts? ideas?

that's aweful.  ya... why would they pay that much every two weeks.  Just get tile or some really nice hardwood.  Does not make sense.

I would try and find some other brides and all send a joint email to them...  (they need to think about the future and the cost to lay it now... compared to the expense to keep cleanning it.

don't they want to book more weddings?

Honestly, once people are in the venue, they will not notice the carpet.  If you are more worried about the entryway, before the area covered in tables or dance floor, could you put an aisle runner or red carpet and have some sort of "grand entrance" for people?

hmmm I did not think of an isle runner but that is a very good suggestion.

    thanks all.

I just now feel like I am throwing good money after bad....they should really be stepping up and paying for that runner to be honest.  We are going to drop a whak load of cash there so that is the least they could do.

When I was venue shopping, we looked at this place. But I couldn't get over the horrendous carpet:

A few months later, a friend of mine got married there. Once people got inside and filled up the room, the carpet wasn't so bad after all. I mean, I noticed it, others may have, but I doubt anyone really cared. Certainly, none of us thought any less of the bride because of it.

My friend jokingly posted this picture on Facebook, with the caption "Ack! The carpet!"

I responded with a laugh, and she responded something to the effect of "Why couldn't they have chosen a normal colour? Oh well, we've photoshopped it out of our minds!"

Just do your best to shrug it off. Get the runner if it makes you feel better. There isn't much you can do now... and anyway, you're 3 WEEKS FROM YOUR WEDDING! Laughing

lol the carpet is hideous, but they chose it to mask spills I bet :)  Why would any venue put carpet in a high spillage area anyway.....acoustics I guess.

I hated my venue's carpet as well, but the rest of the room was so lovely.  I did not notice it once on my wedding day!

Ever since your email to me about it, I've been thinking more and more about it and maybe I should mention something to Lynn about it too.

If they really are spending THAT much to get the carpet cleaned, there is NO reason why they can't go ahead and lay down tiles.

I don't even understand why they are spending that much! It's not a huge area!

I'm going to mention to my parents, since I obviously can't go to the venue myself since I'm in the states. Maybe an effort from multiple brides will help move things along.

I will definitely let you know how my wedding turns out.  I am hopeful that the cleaning will give it a nice facelift and maybe that is all it needs.  I am trying to have a little faith :) .  I have sent a nice email to her outlining my concerns, I tried to be nice about it while letting her know that I was not content and she has sent my concerns to the Facilities manager.  I'll let you know what comes of it.

What I would suggest is have your parents go down to the venue to have a look themselves and then bring it up to them on the spot to see what response they get.

I have already started inquiring with Tile companies about making a donation and I bet you $50 I can get them a new floor for next to nothing.
