Make up counter questions

1. If you buy something from MAC at Nordys, can i be returned?

2. If you have them do your makeup (like for a special event) do they charge? If not do you tip them? Will you feel super guilty if you dont purchase anything?

Re: Make up counter questions

  • I am not sure of Nordstrom, but I know MAC at Dillard's takes returns.

I can't speak for MAC, but Clinique doesn't charge (its definitely recommended that you purchase at least 2 items).. I've gotten some tips before (We aren't supposed to accept them, but not much you can do if the customer leaves it on the counter and refuses to take no for an answer).
Yes, I would feel super guilty for not purchasing anything, because I'm usually the one on the other end- its kinda rude to not purchase..
I'd say definitely if you don't purchase anything, be one of those people who tips. :)
  • Thanks Stacey! What if I purchased just one thing?
They offered today to do my makeup but I declined.
  • I think I'd feel less guilty if I was walking by and they offered to do it, verses going in and asking for a consult knowing I wasn't planning on buying anything. Then again I have no clue how their pay works and normally say no because I don't like the final results lol.
  • I think it'd be fine to just buy one thing, especially if they stop you while you are walking by.
What katie said is a good way to look at it. If you make an appointment with me, I am going to kind of expect you to buy something. If I stop you and offer to do a makeover, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you bought one thing, or even nothing.
  • Yeah, I figure if you are offering it's because you are bored. People could always tell when I was bored at PetSmart because suddenly I'd be offering to show every person who walked in the door our new hamsters, guinea pigs, etc. If you ask me to show you an animal though you have better be taking it home.
  • Hmm ok. Afer he offered today it dawned on me maybe the day of the wedding I could have someone do my makeup.
  • I used to always get my makeup done at MAC for formals, they never charged but I always bought a few of the items they used. I definitely say if you make an appointment plan to buy at least a couple of items, but if you really like what they did you'll want to buy what they used!
  • Jenna- did you always like the results?
  • Eh, I found some, put its more pink than red and after wearing it around for the afternoon, I think I'd like to return it (unopened).
  • I realized too, I suuuck at putting on lipstick. I always wear lipgloss or tinted chapstick so lipsticks a whole new world for me.
  • I can't do lipstick. I feel like I need to reapply every two seconds even with the good stuff, or that it makes my lips look weird.
  • T said I'm weird for not wearing lipstick! I told him most girls my age do not.
  • I've only ever worn it for theatre productions. Otherwise I just do tinted lip glosses or chapstick.

I always did at MAC. I did one once at Clarin's (Not even sure if that's how you spell it) and I walked out looking like a prostitute, which is saying something because I used to wear a lot of makeup.

Honestly guys, I love MAC for stuff like eye makeup but I get ALL of my lipstick from Walgreens or CVS. Unless you get the long lasting stuff, which I hate, it all wears the same IMO so why spend $15 on a lipstick when you can get the same or close to the same color for $2-$5?

And I'm talking NYC and Wet N' Wild here. That way if you hate it, you're only out $2. And I have a few that I LOVE.
  • Jenna- yea, I was thinking of picking up some cheapies at CVS now that I have an idea of color.

Agreed.  Also, regarding OP, I worked at Clinque for a while and buying some itmes after an application would be really nice, but not required.  Especially if they asked you while you where walking by- they might've been bored and a purchase would've been cool but they were prob looking to pass the time as well. :)
