Question :)

Are any of the DW ladies going to get married in their nearby courthouse and then have their ceremony and reception away? We have been thinking about it because it is a little cheaper and less hassle...

  • We've actually been thinking about doing that too. Mainly because I want to go on a honeymoon somewhere else. Getting married at a courthouse will cut down on the vacation time we have to take for the honeymoon and save us some money

  • A few people have done this. It cuts down on the cost and the hassle of getting married outside the country.

  • we did that hence we are now planning our formal wedding. its easy specially if its in your area it will also make it easier in terms of changign ur last name if you doing that they can point u in the direction of where to start.

  • Yep we're doing that as well! Mainly because it saves us the money of having a"legal" ceremony... Also i do get nervous about paperwork and having to send it back and forth...

  • But then the DW will be fake... I don't know, I'm just not a fan of this. From a guest's point of view, I wouldn't want to have to travel to a DW and not actually see the bride and groom get married. That's the most important part, to me.

But maybe it's just me, I don't know. I'm not trying to offend anyone.
  • I understand what you're saying speck... But no one besides our immediate fam will know we are technically married already. We are still doing a symbolic ceremony, will still recite vows and have readings more than likely, and will always consider the symbolic day to be our wedding day. The courthouse will just be paperwork. Like you said its a personal decision, we just felt it would be easier this way then sending imp documents back and forth, blood tests, min required days before the wedding etc like a lot of places mandate.

  • We got legally married in our local courthouse in our small town. But our actual wedding was in Mexico. We didn't do a legal one there bc we would have had to be there for 7 buisness days before the wedding and have blood work done and have to go into a local big city for paper work - not my idea of a vacation. Our wedding in mexico was "real" to us and our guests, they had no problems with it (and most knew). Speck, you should maybe look into the requirements of the country your getting married in and you may change your mind.

  • We didn't have to since we got married in Hawaii, but some of the other ladies have.
