How to get around office potluck?

Now that I've been fitted for my wedding dress, I'm being even more careful with what I eat than ever (and believe me, I food journaled everything before this and already eat low fat), especially since with my disability, it's very hard to exercise.

So, that brings me to the dilemma for my upcoming office potluck on Wednesday.  I've seen the preliminary menu and it's all high fat, starchy, white carbs, and basically nothing healthy.  It's one of those grab a plate and eat where you can type things - not everyone sitting down together.  I have a feeling, I could pack my lunch and eat it without too much of a stir.

Sound okay?  I'm still planning to bake my contribution to the food.

Re: How to get around office potluck?

  • That sounds like a plan to me.

Is there any way you could bring what you said you would make along with a veggie or fruit platter?  That way you could partake in the potluck and not feel so guilty about.  Or just switch what you had suggested that you would bring for a healthier option?
  • If you really want to pack your own lunch and eat it, that's fine.  People will likely give you a hard time, but it's none of their business.

I will say--it's super early for you to have been fitted for your dress.  Do you mean you've ordered it, or you're starting alterations?  I would seriously consider waiting on that.  10 months is a long time to not gain or lose any weight.

Also, one day of crappy eating will not derail your progress unless you let it--ie, by continuing to eat crappy after the potluck.  It takes 3500 extra calories to make a pound.  Do you really think you'll eat that many?  You  might bloat, if it's a bunch of processed white carbs, but that will be gone in a couple days.

I almost always eat my own food before that kind of stuff.  ::shrug::  People ask why I'm not eating and I say "Oh, I ate earlier."  No big deal.  I'm still being social, just not eating.  Who cares?

I have no aversion to pot lucks, really.  I'm not a germaphobe, I just like my home brought lunch :-)

And I agree about the alterations!  10 months before your wedding?  That's kinda ridiculous.
  • Thanks!  They've just taken the measurements for the dress and it's on order.  The bridal salon is making a lot of revisions to the dress to accommodate my limited mobility, so I'm just trying to be extra careful.  I'm used to getting ribbed about what I eat, but I'm just sick of wasting calories on cold, greasy, fattening food that isn't worth it and eating just to be polite.
