New Here

Hi Ladies,
I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself.  My name is Kim and my FI is Maurice.  We just recently got engaged last week and we are planning our wedding for June 8 2013.  Any and all advice is welcomed.  I look forward to getting to know all of you over the course of the next few months.

Kim

Re: New Here

  • Welcome!  Let's get some details!  How did your FI propose?  Do you know where you are getting married yet?

This board is so helpful and friendly -- I hope you stick around!

  • congrats and welcome! I guess my advice would be to start figuring out your budget (there is a tool on the knot you can use as a guide) and about how many people you want to have at the wedding! Once you know those things you can start nailing down all the details since you'll need to know how many people you need to accomodate and what you can afford to spend on them.
  • Welcome! I will say that while using TK's budget template is really helpful so that you don't forget anything... don't rely solely on it. TK has been known to lose large amounts of information for no reason at all.
Ask lots of questions, we're here to help!

The proposal was, simple and cheesy.  We were enjoying a random Friday off watching daytime TV and he got down on one knee during a commercial and asked me to marry him and I said yes.  It was so corny but I wouldn't have had it any other way.  It matched both of our personalities tho.  Simple and to the point.  We don't know where we are getting married yet.  We know we want to get married outside and I'm a little bit country so maybe a ranch or something.  I plan on wearing my boots with my dress.

Tomorrow is Attention Wh*re Thursday, so find something to brag about!
  • Welcome, and congratulations! I got married this past October and the ladies on this board helped lead me to a pretty awesome line up of vendors, and ideas!
  • I would just suggest that, since you are planning on next June, you start locking down some of your big vendors:  reception, ceremony, photographer.  June is very popular and can fill up over a year out!
  • I also don't recommend that you get married outside in June.  :)  But that's just me.  Welcome and congrats!  This board is a lifesaver--I couldn't have planned my wedding without it.

Oh and my DH proposed at his condo during the Mavs game so I can totally relate.
  • Welcome. I'm getting married the week after you. I suggest working on a venue for ceremony and reception. These can book up fast. I've gotten some good advice here so far.

  • Welcome!  I second stephiehall about reconsidering getting married outside in June.  We wanted to get married outside at our wedding next week, but it's already in the mid-90s and I can't put my guests through that.  Last year I went to an outdoor wedding in August.  By the end of the ceremony, we all looked like wet dogs in our nice dresses and suits.  I would recommend if you have your heart set on it though to find a venue that has an outside AND inside ceremony space so you have a backup plan in case of inclement weather/heat.

When you said, "outdoors" and "ranch" I immediately thought if Swingin' D Ranch.  Really cute venue!

  • Congratulations and welcome to the board! Ditto what the other girls have said -- start looking at vendors, and budgeting for what you want =).
  • Thanks for the input.  I picked the date because I am a teacher and cannot take time off before that since it is so close to summer vacation.  Also, since we have birthday the last week of Dec and first week of Jan we don't want anything close to that time frame.  We thought about Oct however we won't have enough time to save money for the wedding that soon.  So we'll do the best that we can.  Our families tend to be outside people regardless of heat. I'm excited to start looking and visiting venues in the next couple weeks.  Thanks again for all the pointers so far.  I can already tell that the ladies on here are going to become an invaluable tool!!!  Laughing

Oh, I totally feel you there.  I got married this past November, and I definitely wouldn't have done a wedding during the school year if I wasn't teaching the caliber of students that I have.  I used so many of my days that I sometimes wished we'd done it in the summer, but we were both adamantly opposed to having to be all dressed up when it was anywhere close to uncomfortable outside!  Good luck!

  • Congrats and welcome!  The Orchard in Azle is a really pretty country venue, depending on where you live.  This board is very friendly and helpful!

Hi and welcome! I don't have any venues to suggest, but I found my venue (and photographer) by randomly searching on google using "Dallas photographer blog wedding" and various combinations of those words. I was able to see so many different weddings in various places here in the metroplex that way.
