Las Vegas for a Honeymoon in September

Please share some ideas of fun things to do in Vegas for a honeymoon...I have a few things in mind as I have been there before.  Also hotel recommendations as I tend to be the one to stay at the hotel I am familar with...advice ideas welcome

Re: Las Vegas for a Honeymoon in September

  • For HM hotels, I think of the Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian, Palazzo. The Bellagio is my personal favorite.

For things to do: we really enjoyed seeing the LOVE show put on by Cirque. There are many Ciruqe shows and I've heard a few others are really good as well. We also found it fun to do the gondola ride at the Venetian--a little cheesy but kind of cute and romantic. Maybe spend some time at the spa together at your hotel--get a couples message. I'd also get off the strip and go to downtown Vegas/Freemont St.

  • Summer2011 can afford pricier hotels than we can - the Bellagio?  Really?

We stay at the Mirage, which is right in the middle of the strip.
We can walk to everything, and the hotel is wonderful - just had a makeover like two years ago.
  • Oh, and we saw the Terry Fator show which is in the Mirage - loved it, very funny, not expensive, great time - he won America's Got Talent and now he's got his own show in Vegas:

the OP gave no indication of budget. Every person on here has a different budget and places different priorities on what they spend their budget on. A nicer way to put it would have been "If you are looking for something more budget friendly, look into the Mirage."

  • September should be a nice time to go, the pools should still be open at all the hotels, so that's something to consider too.  Although rudely, Kristin did bring up budget, so what are you looking to spend?  Vegas can be done cheaply if you want to, and it can also be done extremely extravagently, so depending on what you want to spend, there's probably an option for anything.

My personal favorite hotel on the strip is the Venetian.  The rooms can be a little pricey, but even the 'standard' hotel room is HM worthy so it's worth the splurge even if only for a night or two, it's in a great central location on the strip, and they have a great selection of food in every budget (I love the Grand Lux Cafe).

As for things to do, Vegas probably has it all.  I love seeing shows, my favorite was Phantom of the Opera, which played in the Venetian, but unfortunately they are no longer running it.  If you want to see something that extremely popular (like 'O'), I'd recommend booking in advance, otherwise, if you are open to a variety of shows, definitely utilize Tix4Tonight, they have several booths on the strip to purchase show tickets for.

Although touristy, it's fun to check out some of the free stuff on the strip like the Bellagio fountains, the TI show (even though its super cheesy), the fire show at the Mirage, the botanical gardens inside the Bellagio, the Forum Shops at Cesars Palace, etc.

  • For "honeymoon", I also think of the ones Summer mentioned if you can swing them budget-wise, along with a room with a balcony and view of the fountains at the Cosmopolitan.

    Things to do:
Have Presidential Limo pick you up at the aiport to take you to the Vegas sign before your hotel
    See a show
Have at least one really nice dinner with a view of the strip
See the Bellagio fountains and conservatory
Eat on the patio at Mon Ami Gabi
Go for drinks at Mix, Foundation Room, Mandarin Bar, Voodoo Lounge, or Level 107 (all have great views of the strip), or Hyde at the Bellagio to see the fountains
Spend at day at one of the great Vegas pools just relaxing

  • I've stayed at the Paris and Mandalay Bay.  My husband and I really loved MB because of the man made beach.  Where else can you find a "beach" in the middle of the city?  I agree with seeing all the free stuff along the strip.
  • Budget is not an issue at this point as we have done a honeymoon registry so we have to just offset costs most likely and that will be our choice.

I am extremely excited to know what peoples thoughts are about the other hotels...I have stayed at the Luxor and while I was in Vegas had a bad experience at the Monte Carlo so that one is out.  A beach day will be in the books along with a ride down to Freemont, the fountain and a show or two.   I am doing the planning as my fiance he has never been and he chose Vegas.

I also seen Zumanity and want to see another Cirque show.

I like the limo idea may add that to our registry...does anyone know the cost?

Thanks for the ideas and by the way they are only ideas no need to talk about the money other than it is nice to know to edit my honeymoon registry appropriately.

  • Just an FYI about HM registries. I know a lot of people who have tried to use them. They have registered for very little otherwise to try and hammer home the point, but people just do not seem to latch on to the idea. So, the people I know who have done them got very little from their guests in terms of the registry. So, plan the HM you can afford and if you happen to get money from the registry, or in the form of monetary gifts, you can use that for spending money, pay off other wedding bills (there will be plenty, trust me!), or to place into savings.

  • I have registered for both but people have to accomodate us and are more likely to go with the honeymoon registry because we are travelling to India for our first marriage and a second is in Manitoba, Canada.  We can not bring physical gifts home easily and the people that will be giving gifts are probably going to opt for the honeymoon registry if it is done well.

You will be in for a surprise. I got married back in 2004 and had almost nothing on a registry because I already owned a home aand didn't need much. I, too, did not get married in my hometown. I figured most people would give us a monetary gift, if they even chose to give a gift at all since I would never expect anything and a lot of my guests had to travel for the wedding. I guessed wrong. Maybe in your situation it will be different,  but I got a lot of presents that were never on any type of registry and were not monetary. All I'm saying is that you cannot count on people giving the exact gift you want, let alone any gift at all. A gift is not mandatory and it's not to be expected on any level, whether its money or a new mixer. If you are taking your HM well after your wedding, then you can try to book something that doesn't have a payment due up front and then see where things stand with your available cash flow.

I have seen Mystere and Love (as well as Zumanity).  Both were great, Mystere is pretty much the classic CDS show.  There is a new one that just opened Zarkana at the Aria.

Luxor and MC are definitely on the lower end of hotels, while many of the ones mentioned here are on the higher end.  Mid-range would be Paris (not my favorite but many like it), Mirage (great pool), Planet Hollywood (good for a young crowd and great location), Mandalay Bay (great pool, nice dining options but on the Southern end of the strip), Treasure Island (north end of the strip).  Aria is newer, center strip and has very modern rooms if you can swing it.  Alot of people like MGM and they are remodeling their rooms right now I think.  It's also a little south but also has a great pool.

I think Presidential Limo runs around $65 for airport to hotel, but make sure you book it for 2 hours if you can so you can go to the sign and have the bottle of champagne that they will have for you.

I also did a HM registry but we did not register for our room or our flight--just things like dinners, shows, etc.  I think I did list a one-night room upgrade as an option, but not the room for the entire trip.  We also pre-paid our HM in advance so whatever we got was a gift, not something we depended on.
  • You realize the hm registry place just cuts you a check right?  So you think you're getting a "couples massage" when in reality they just give you the money.  You might as well not register, cut out the middle man and get the cash directly.
  • My husband and I stayed at the MGM Signature Hotels - they were wonderful. We loved the lazy river pool in the MGM pool complex.
