Timing for Registry

Is it okay to register after the holidays in January for an early July wedding? If I was to go to Macy's and BBB on a weekend, what is the best time of the day to go? Should I expect about 4 hours for each store? Thanks!

My wedding is August and we already registered at both BBB and Macy's. We registered on a Saturday night at BBB and it wasn't busy at all. I think we registered during a weekday at Macy's (but we had already started registering online...we just needed to pick our bedding) and it wasn't busy then either. We didn't have any appointmnets, we just went in. We were at BBB the longest amount of time because it was the first place we registered at and I think we were there for 2.5 hours.

4 hours is way too long. I think if you go later in the day on the weekend you will be fine at both. Just remember- you will change your registry 758934862378 times online between registering and your wedding. It's good to start though, since you want a good base.

I think we spent 2-3 hours at BB&B, but that was because we went in totally blind and hadn't even thought about what we might want to register for ahead of time.

We already registered for our July wedding, because we figured that if it was complete (or at least started) before the holidays then it'd give some of our close family members the option to get us Christmas gifts off the registry.

We registered on a weekday in the morning... the store was empty and it was heaven.  :-)  I can't stand crowds, so I really didn't want to chance doing it on a weekend at any time.

Great advice Peaches!! I think you should start before the holidays. This gives family and friends an opportunity to get you gifts.

My fiance and I started our registries for our September wedding (we still have TONS to do) but it's easier now to add things and remove others as needed. You will be surprised we have received many gifts just for being engaged and I never told anyone where we were registered.

Our wedding is in September, and we've already registered. I wanted to register before the Save the Dates go out (which are going out this weekend) just in case someone wanted to send a gift because they know they won't be able to attend the wedding. (or didn't know we were engaged) At least we're registered somewhere so if the guests ask our parents about it, they can tell them where we're registered. I wanted to just get it out of the way before the holidays too.

Our wedding is in July as well and we registered last month. As Peaches said, we wanted to do it before the holidays so family would have the option to buy us some stuff of the registry since that is what we need and or want.

We did Macy's on a Friday evening but it was one of those registry event parties that they have. It was not that crowded. We registered at BBB on a Saturday morning, first thing at 9am and it was fine. It took us about 2 hours. It wasn't that bad.

My wedding is in July and we registered in August (we're both teachers and knew once the school year got going we wouldn't have a ton of tiem to go).  We were at Macys and BBB for about an hour each.

We did a "first round" registry of the stuff we knew we definitely needed/wanted, then I went online and have adjusted my registry more through the computer.  If both places had the same item we wanted for about the same price, I made sure we were registered for it at Macys (since you get rewards back) and I actually found it easier to pick out stuff online because I could search for exactly what I wanted.

I would suggest stuff like bedding and china pick out in stores so you can actually see it, but there were some items we saw but wanted a different color/size/etc so I marked down what it was and found it online (even though it wasn't available in the store).

OH - and even though my fiance was fine for going to register he did get tired of being in the store (and we weren't there long), so it was helpful for him that we got to pick out items together in the store but then I added stuff online.  If you're there for 3+ hours, he may get bored or aggrevated about being there.   Online I would pick out 2 or 3 things I knew we both wanted and asked which he prefered - I think he found that easier than going through 20 different options in a store.
