30 Day Shred and Counting Calories

I just recently got the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, as well as a couple of her other DVDs, and I started doing the 30 Day Shred this past Saturday.  I have also been counting my calories on My Fitness Pal.  My question is for those that do a workout video and count calories, how do you know how many calories you burn to record and make sure you eat back?  Currently, I just put in circuit training in My Fitness Calorie for 20 minutes, and used the number of calories burned that it came up with (186).  But I'm not even sure if the 30 Day Shred would be considered Circuit Training.  Any help would be great especially so I don't give myself credit for burning off too many calories.

Thanks!

Re: 30 Day Shred and Counting Calories

  • I've always gotten fairly accurate results with inputting it as circuit training.  I cross check with my heart rate monitor (if you've got the budget for you, they're really invaluable tools to have when you're counting calories or trying to get in better shape).

  • I went through this exact same thing last week. I googled it and found someone on spark people who had used a heart rate monitor and then posted and also found on livestrong and one other site I can't remember right now how many calories on average a 150 lb woman would lose doing her video. All thtee numbers were 160 something, so i kinda trusted it. then because I'm under 150 lbs I rounded down - thinking I'd burn less doing the same thing and just plugged it into my fitness pal at 150 calories burned. I'm about 120. Obviously that's not scientific at all and I could be off but I figure that got me close enough?? Ill watch this though to see if someone posts a better idea :)
