Bridesmaid Dress Length

As a bridesmaid, which dress length would you choose?

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Length

  • It would really depend on the feel of the rest of the wedding. And the formality of the bride's gown. I've been in two weddings recently. I wore one long dress and one short one. Both dresses suited the weddings perfectly.
  • Well, what time of year is the wedding? And be careful with tea length, some people do not pull the length off very well, such as me! I'm too short to wear it.

  • I'm short and a little stocky, and tea length makes me look like I'm shaped like a fire hydrant.  Short or long is more universally flattering.

  • How formal is your wedding? Is it indoors or out? What time of year? What figures do your BMs have and what are they comfortable with? I know that I would personally prefer tea or long-- I have ugly legs that I am rather embarassed of and I would absolutly abhor having to stand in front of a crowd of people in a short dress. But this isn't about what we on TK want, it should be more about what your girls are comfortable with.

This exactly - it's about YOUR wedding and YOUR friends.  I too am not really comfortable showing my legs, and most of the short dresses out there were WAY too short for my comfort, given the formality of my wedding.  The dress I chose (with lots of input from my girls) was a long dress that we then had shortened.  I told them anywhere between mid-calf and right at the knee was fine by me.  They each had it altered to the length that they felt was most flattering for them (basically my shorter girls went for the knee, while my taller BM went mid-calf)
  • I picked short because I would be more likely to wear it again as opposed to a long dress.  It really depends on the color and material though.

I know a lot of conservative women who would have a problem with a knee-length dress so keep that in mind.

  • Thanks for all the input!  I'm giving my bridesmaids lots of input on what they want to wear, I was just curious as to what most people like.
