QUESTION ABOUT RECEPTION LOCATION ---not in love with it anymore

Hey Ladies,

I booked the Blair Mills for my reception because of the price and also because they are "SUPPOSE" to be doing some renovations and i can do a lot to the ballroom and make it my own. Well i went back there and fell out of love with it. We paid our deposit and now i don't know what to do. Every other place i have called is booked and we can not change the wedding date (6/11/2011) because my traditional wedding is 6/10/2011. what would you guys suggest i do?

Also wanted to know if any of Philly/DE/Nj have been to any weddings at this location.

Thanks ladies

Ok I took a look see at the site and I have just one question, what made you fall out of love with this place? It is simple gorgeous from what I can see from their site. And if you have the grand ballroom it looks nice from the picture they have (though I am not entirely sure what the rest of it looks like). Do you have any other options in mind or a back up plan since everyone you seem to be calling is already booked? Is your deposit refundable? What is it about the place that you really are starting to change your mind about?

What about it did you fall out of love with? When we were going to do our vow renewal in Philly we were going to have it at the Springfield Country Club In Springfield PA. Its a beautiful country club and they are not over the top expensive.

Remeber to keep in mind that your venue is doing renovations and once they are complete you may fall in love with it again.

I don't live in Philly but one of our old AAW Knotties got married at The Regal Ballroom. I know another Philly bride from another site I frequent getting married at CELEBRATIONS BALLROOM. I really think your current ballroom is pretty from what I can see on the site too, like Clinton said.

I think the facility is beautiful, and I'm wondering the same thing as the other ladies, what about it don't you love anymore?  If you can't get your deposit back I would say find a way to bring the love back.  I would suggest hiring a good florist or decor specialist.  I think that you can do a lot with that space to make it beautiful.  Lighting, fabric, flowers, etc. will make you fall back in love with the facility.

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

Thank you so much for your responses. Well i think what made me fall out of love with it is the fact that i kept looking at other locations and just kept finding places that a lot more grand (country clubs, merion, the mansion). The Blair mills is nice, and the grand ball room is nice also (think i will be using the fountain room for my cocktail hr). I think the outside of the building is what is kind of driving me nuts. Not a big fan of the outside and i don't know exactly what it will look like after the construction is done. The deposit is not refundable and right now, that is money we can not throw away. They are having their first outdoor ceremony this may so they are doing a lot of renovating of the back, landscaping etc (there is also a pool out there). I am not sure if anything is being done to the front of the building. Every other place i have looked at is over 100 for June. Blair mills is giving me a Sat evening wedding for 68 per person and it has a LOT inculded in the package.Pretty much everything is included ( open bar, cocktail hour with a lot of food, napkin, linens, seat covers, sash etc) so i have decided to just stick with the location because i am getting a bargain and won't find this package anywhere else for the same price. I am also having my ceremony outside so i guess i will check out the location in May once the renovations are done. My wedding planner has reassured me that she will take of me and make sure i get everything and look i want so i am keeping my finger crossed.

    Thanks for all your advice

Word of Advice: Stop looking at other places. FI and I are in a MESS because of this (we have lost $$$ too)...

Flowers, Lighting, Etc can be used...its all about dressing it up and making it into your own.

Let us know what you decide...
