monday monday

hey, all.  how was your weekend?

Re: monday monday

  • Really nice!  I posted in one of the daily threads last week but Newport was GREAT!  We even went sailing one day, which was freezing, but still tons of fun.

I am having the hardest time getting back into my routine, though.

  • My weekend was good, but WAY TOO BUSY!  Saturday and Sunday, I was up by 8 and didn't eat anything real until about 3PM.  I threw a baby shower, which went really well, but was very time-consuming for sure.  H and I bought a new car, which was exciting.  I was better at haggling than I thought I'd be.  We ended up getting a Nissan Versa.  I like it.  It serves our needs, and it's got some neat features, so I think we'll enjoy it.  I got a good intrest rate, and bought it for a few grand under the KBB fair price or whatever.

On a sad note, one of the new kitties has been doing this weird cough thing.  At first I thought it was hairballs, so I wasn't concerned, but after a week or so I noticed that he never actually coughed anything up.  Well, in the last few days it's become VERY obvious it's not a hairball.  He has a coughing/wheezing fit every time he moves, basically.  And his chest sounds really rattly.  I'm hoping it's a cold or something that can be treated, but I can't help but worry it's something more serious.  I hate seeing animals sick :(

  • Prof - glad you enjoyed the trip, sailing sounds really fun!  It's definitely on my bucket list, but I don't know anyone who sails, so we'll see about that.

Resa - glad you found a car that you liked!  My parents considered getting a Versa, they seem like really nice cars.  Sorry to hear about your kitty though, it's definitely tough seeing pets sick.  I hope you'll be able to figure out the problem and get him well soon!

My weekend was pretty busy - our college football team lost their first game of the season, so that was no fun, definitely put a damper on the weekend.  However, in the midst of our disappointment, we got a lot of things done for the wedding, so I'm feeling pretty good on that side of things.
  • Erin, I'm getting excited for you :)  Are you taking any time off work this week?

    Calypso, how was your weekend?

FI and I are both taking of Thursday, Friday and Monday.  I figured by Thursday I'll be such a bundle of nerves I wouldn't be productive at all at work anyway, so I might as well just take the time off for last-minute projects/errands.  Quite a few of our family members will be in town as early as Thursday afternoon/evening, and FI's parents will probably stay in town to watch us open gifts on Sunday, so we figured it would be nice to take Monday off as one more day to just relax before getting back into work.
  • @Resa - so sad about the kitty!  get him to the vet.  cats are tough because they will keep playing and trying to be normal even when they arent.

my weekend was ok, ran a bunch of errands and laid low mostly.  last week was absurd at work i was very drained come friday night.  i was supposed to go out to dinner and actually ended up cancelling and staying in.
  • Erin, I definitely do not recommend sailing in New England in October!  In hindsight it was pretty funny, but sitting there soaking wet and shaking was really not fun.  The best part was that while we were packing, I mentioned to H that I should bring a change of clothes for after sailing because I was going to get wet, and H said, "If you get wet enough that you actually need to change clothes, it's probably because you went overboard, and in that case you have bigger problems."  And then we hit a HUGE wave and I was soaked.

Resa, did you get the Sedan or the Hatchback?

  • Hatchback.  H was really set on it.  At first I thought it wasn't worth it (hatchback is more expensive), but I'm actually really glad that's what we got. I'm about to head out to get blood drawn (AGAIN....seriously, I'm SO sick of this), and although I HATE getting blood drawn, I'm actually looking forward to driving the new car there :)

  • Prof, it sounds like you had an amazing weekend. Newport is definitely on my bucket list.

Resa, yay on the new car.

    Erin, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Enough said.

Calypso, sometimes chill weekends to relax and recharge are just the right thing.

AFM, my sister was in town this weekend, so lots of busy-ness with that. Tomorrow, I'm visiting with her and others in my hometown a couple of hours away (overnight!), so I'm getting organized and packed for that. C makes packing a much bigger adventure, but I'm a very organized packer, so I think we'll be okay. And worst-case scenario, there are stores!

  • Biblio, will this be your first overnight trip since C was born?

Calypso -- I really hope to have a chill weekend sometime soon.  Those are my favorite!!  I get so burnt out during the week that sometimes I just need a plan-less weekend of PJs and relaxing to keep me going!

What sail tour did you do? The tours I've done there have been way too calm and "lazy-river" for my liking.

<div>I don't really know what the tour was.  We left from Pier 49 and sailed on the American Eagle, but that's about all I know.  The bride's father and brother are both avid sailors (the ceremony/reception was at the NY Yacht Club, of which I'm pretty sure her father is a member), so we were basically treated like crew.  It was definitely not "lazy."  :p  There were several instances where the boat was tilted so far to port or starboard I was convinced we were going to flip over.</div><div>
</div><div>Resa, I love the Versa hatchback.  I think they are just adorable (plus, it reminds me of Hiro from Heroes!)</div>

It will be. Needless to say, I have piles and lists forming around the house! Plus, I want to be able to get out early in the morning -- in part to arrive early -- in part so that we can drive through C's morning nap. If that happens, 1) she gets a good nap, and 2) she doesn't fuss all the way there. Win-win.

I'm glad you found something to make bloodwork a little more enjoyable. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /> New cars are definitely fun!

  • Biblio -- Smart move, trying to drive through her nap.  That should make for a smoother trip.

  • Oh, and you all might find this enjoyable.  So you know how everyone's always like "you wouldn't buy a car without test driving it.." when trying to defend premarital sex/cohabitation?  Well, I totally bought a car without test-driving it lol.  H had driven a different Versa (not that exact one) earlier in the day, so I just didn't feel the need.  I sat in the car, got a feeling for the controls, etc., but didn't actually drive before buying.  The next day I realized it, and had to chuckle because it just made me think of that argument.

  • haha, i bought my car withouth test driving it too as it had to be ordered (i like a manual transmission, and lots rarely stock them nowadays) so i drove an automatic model and then bought the stick when it came in, no test drive.
  • Haha, I don't think anyone has ever used that specific analogy to my face, but that is pretty dumb.
