Has anyone been to Riviera Maya recently?

My new hubby and I are going to Rivieria Maya in 3 weeks for part 2 of our honeymoon.  We booked a great deal on Expedia but it didn't include the transfers to / from Cancun airport to the Grand Riviera Princess resort.  The agent recommended that we can easily reserve a private van service online.  This is my first time doing this so if anyone has any advice on who to use that would be awesome.  I definitely do NOT want to go to the airport and ask just anyone for a ride to the resort.  I heard nightmares the locals bombarding tourists to get them to buy timeshare, etc.  I refuse to go through that...that's way too overwhelming!!!!!   Yikes!!!!!

Re: Has anyone been to Riviera Maya recently?

  • We stayed at the Aventura Spa Palace for a getaway in May 2008 (Fab place!) and used "Tropical" for our transportation. I don't have the contact info any more. Maybe call the hotel you are staying at and ask for their preferred ground transfer company. The company should be waiting for you outside the terminal with signs, cold bottled water and cooling rags.

It was a comp transfer so I don't know what what the public rate was?
  • I agree with pp.  Since you don't have a TA contact hotel and ask them who they use, most resorts have their own transportation.  Walk past ALL the people in the airport they are the ones trying to sell timeshares etc...  When we booked with TA we also upgraded our transportation to one that was going to our resort only that way we didn't have to stop at other resorts along the way to drop of other people.  If you are in a shared ride it can take hours if your resort is the last drop-off point.

  • We stayed at Aventura Spa Palace about a year ago but our transfers were included by Palace Resorts by Traffic.

We used Olympus on our first visit to Mexico 2 years ago and they were good. We always see BestDay and Greyline at Cancun airport when we are there. They seem to be popular.

Agree w/pp call your resort to see if they have a prefered company that they can recommend.

  • Call your hotel and ask what service they have contracts with.  Then usually you can book with that company online.  We just did this in Mazatlan and it worked great with no problems.
